| My only question is; has Mikael gone too fun? It's nice to have fun, but it's nice to have good records too. / Okey, not in this story he is highlighting the 'fun' aspect, but I read something like that yesterday. |

| I just wonder whether this has anything to do with Mikael's "godly" death metal vocals... |
|
|
|
Shit, i really fucking love Mikael's growls, that's not good |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| I'm honestly not that affected by this. I mean, I love Mikael's vocals but I can't say for sure if he was better than Peter on this band. Besides I know they've found a good replacement. |

Nice to see wannabe leaving a great band and can now officially concentrate on Opeth.
Quote: Long live OPETH
long live their downgraded craps swirling in shelf. |

| I don't understand how anyone is really surprised by this. He said himself that he finds death metal boring these days, and wants to focus more on the progressive side of Opeth's music. Makes sense that he would leave Bloodbath. |

If death metal is boring, then Opeth is the epitome of monotony.
Alright. Not really sure of the point of this comment, but to each his own. |

They are, but that has nothing to do with death metal.
Bloodbath are nothing special anyway, but Swano would be cool, if he were able to sustain the growls. |

It's fine. Mikael wants to develop his clean voice and his growls are not as impressive as before.
Just hope they get a good replacement. |

| I'm quite surprised about some of the comments here. The Fathomless Mastery is one of my absolute favorites. I have it in my car pretty much since it came out and I'm still madly in love with it. And one of the best parts of it for me is Michaels growling. I for one am very sad about this. |

Unfortunate news. I wish both Mike and Bloodbath the best! As far the new album goes, they should show all these Fag Core bands how Death Metal is done! Best of Luck with the new Vocalist! |

Highly doubt it, but it would be lovely. |

| Somehow i think mikaels tallent is deteiarating.... The latest album with Opeth was not that great plus now he's leaving bloodbath for good it seems.... Although this may just be a change in his interests in music.... Whatever the case, I hope this is for the better! |
|
|
|
| If you watch recent Opeth and Bloodbath live performances, you can see that Mikael's death growls are really strained and not very good. Maybe he just needs to take a break from death metal stuff, or he shouldn't do it anymore. It sounds like the long term effects of growling is taking its toll. |

AMEN!!!!! |

| If they don't bring back Peter, they should get Daniel Droste from AHAB. He's got a sick growl. Or maybe.......they convined Dan Swano to come back from the dead and do vocals.....that would be quite the surprise. |

The new album from BRT its pretty good in my opinion, also I vote for bringing Peter back, but I know it will not happen. |

I agree. They need to keep it in the family. That would at least make ME feel like it's Bloodbath. And going back a bit to the oldschool Swedish sound, gore lyrics as opposed to evil anti-religion stuff, Entombed riffs, less Florida influence...I'd be happily letting out a few sharts of joy. |

|
|

Dan Swano can't sustain his growls during a live show, so they won't be getting him.
About Mikael, kind of funny how you say a genre of music is boring and then go off and make an album of basically paying tribute to a select group of artists from 40 years ago that are your biggest influences. Whether Heritage is boring or not, it sure as hell ain't fresh. But Mikael is a strange guy. |

Don't see the funny or the problem in doing that. Both acts don't relate at all.
Heritage was shitty but that's another discussion. |

Mikael is a strange guy.
Did you read what he said regarding this? I don't think he meant it's boring, he actually says it's fun but he's been doing it for a long time already.
Now he shall pay tribute to bands of the 70's until it's not fun anymore if you follow this logic.
Then, he will go dubstep. |

Yeah so?
But how does that have anything to do with the fact he did a tribute album to his roots? It's not unusual, people just change. I don't like current Opeth at all but I don't think there's anything special or contradictory at all about what he's doing.... In fact I would say this was bound to happen considering the constant evolution in their music and Mikael talking about old prog rock more and more.
You put two completely different things:
- Mikael is getting bored of death metal
- He did a tribute album of his prog roots
and compared them and found them "weird"... It sounds really offtopic to me. It's just a matter of tastes, I would say I don't dig a lot of the stuff you like, find it boring... and I like a couple of old school extreme metal bands that aren't original at all, there's no contradiction there, it's just tastes. Mikael doesn't seem to dig death metal as much anymore ad goes to prog rock. Only natural. |

I'm pretty sure he was a session vocalist, but he laid down some pretty sick growls. The best he's ever done if you ask me. |
