Bal-Sagoth - Band Update

UK symphonic black metal band Bal-Sagoth has released a new update stating there are no concrete plans for a new album anytime soon. This information was offered up by the band's vocalist Byron "Lord" Roberts on the band's MySpace page: "Hail to all Bal-Sagoth fans! It's a question we get asked fairly frequently, so just to clarify the situation and eliminate any rumours before they spiral out of control, here is the current state of play regarding possible future Bal-Sagoth albums. Alas, contrary to what you might have heard, there are still currently no definite plans for a new Bal-Sagoth album."

"True, Jonny and Chris are currently working on some new material (which according to Chris may well be used for a new, as yet unnamed side project by them), but the truth of the matter is that there are still no concrete plans for a new Bal-Sagoth release. But fear not, nothing has been ruled out, and it always remains a possibility as long as the band exists. Just wanted to clarify the matter. Thanks to all for your support!"

It's actually better than what I expected. I expected them to say they were disbanding.
Well, this is still good news!

I didn't even know they were still alive. Oh well, no new album I guess.

To each their own, but I've enjoyed the band's music for years. Anyone who's heard "Starfire Burning Upon The Ice-Veiled Throne Of Ultima Thule" could agree that the band did do their own thing with black metal, and I think they are the only black metal band I've ever heard, that narrated in their songs. Listening to their music wasn't just like listening to song, it was like experiencing some great old tale. It makes me think of H.P. Lovecraft and Robert Howard, and is truly black metal for fans of finely written fantasy and horror. I've loved the riffs, the melodies, and even got used to the scowl approach with time. The one thing that I can say that makes their sound truly timeless, is that there's been nobody else out there like them in the realms of black metal.

Trust me, I've been trying to find something to get my Bal-Sagoth fix with for years now. Summoning perhaps? Nope. Just not the same. I heard some years ago that their frontman was going to be working on some graphic novels or something. But it seems that this never came to pass.

I think because of the band's uniqueness, they are always going to have mixed sentiments from listeners. But we can also say that about bands like Diablo Swing Orchestra, which people either love or hate. It's been six years since the hexology was completed, and I hope we'll hear something else from these guys in the future. But I'm still saying the same about The Kovenant's upcoming album, that's been upcoming for almost ten years now.

Bal-Sagoth has a great cheese factor and lacks in some areas, but their music is not boring to me. For me the worst part are the drums, they sound so god damn fake. This update actually had a negative effect on my thoughts toward this band, good job "lord" byron.

Bal-Sagoth are a legend in music in general and there is no other band like their sound and vibe! It's a shame they don't want to make music anymore, but that's their right. Only us fans are losing, but apparently these guys are sold out and that's clearly the truth! Still, they are great and will remain so in the history of music! Respect and respect from us fans and thanks for having you!
