Legendary US heavy metallers Manowar have revealed via their official Facebook page that the band's upcoming album, due to be released on June 16th, will be entitled The Lord Of Steel. It will be out first exclusively on iTunes and on the band's own online store, The Kingdom Of Steel.
On the same date, Metal Hammer UK will release a special 'Steel Edition' of Metal Hammer #233, including the CD and a digital copy of the album.
In contrast to the 2007 release Gods Of War, this new album is not a concept album. The album will be mixed and mastered at the legendary Wisseloord Studios by long-time collaborators mixing engineer Ronald Prent and two-time Grammy award-winning mastering engineer Darcy Proper.
The band recently announced that "El Gringo" will be the theme song of the action western El Gringo, featuring Scott Adkins ('Expendables 2', 'The Bourne Ultimatum') and Christian Slater and produced by After Dark Films ('An American Haunting') and Joel Silver's ('Matrix', 'Lethal Weapon') Dark Castle Home Entertainment. The trailer for the film 'El Gringo' featuring a short sample of the theme song can be seen here.
Joey DeMaio explained: "We were talking about a concept album but then got inspired to go in a different direction. This is where we are right now. I've been doing research on getting the best microphones and pre-amps for the guitars. The bass sound is death defying. We've done a lot of work on drums too, giving Donnie room to stretch out. And Eric will simply sound bigger than life as always."
So, "Lord Of Steel" eh? Bound to be fucking original.
And featuring "El gringo"... really? A soundtrack of some sort? Would I even bother checking out the sample?
The one thing Manowar has taught me over this last decade is to not expect too much (at all). At least they spared us another concept album à la Gods Of War.
Written by JohnDoe on 12.05.2012 at 03:25 death defying bass, wtf does that even mean?
Nobody knows what it means, but it's provocative.
the bass player is either walking a tight rope and playing bass at the same time or playing Russian roulette while playing the bass; isn't it death defying enough?
Still holding out hope that Manowar can release an album that measures up to any of thier first 4-5 albums! The last one was totally forgettable, imo. Saw them for the first time in my life in Worcester MA,about 14 months ago and was totally impressed with thier live show. Then again, they played "Battle Hymns" in its entirety. So,yeah,im interested in what they come up with on this album.
What an exercise in boredom from the crowned lords of cheese. At least their last EP had some interesting tracks (the title track mostly) which kindof rekindled my interest in Manowar, but that song is ridiculous and this "new" album filled with rehashed ideas will probably be a waste of time.
Manowar can still put on a good live show if they really want to, but ever since 1996 they have been on a constant downward spiral and I expect this album will represent a new low.
Just about the only good thing I can say about "El Gringo", is that I've heard far worse both by Manowar themselves, and by other bands. But still, "El Gringo" makes "El Dorado" by Iron Maiden seem like an absolute classic of metal by comparison!
Written by RavenKing on 14.05.2012 at 00:40 It has to be really bad to achieve this because Maiden's song sucks.
Well, I don't think that it sucks, but nor do I think it's a classic song of all time. But it is compared to "El Gringo".
It probably is telling though, that a lesser song of Maiden can be made to look so great in comparison to a Manowar song... and Manowar have done even worse than "El Gringo", so... that tells it's own story I think.
The Triumph of Steel, The Hell of Steel, Secrets of Steel, The Kingdom of Steel, Steel Warriors and finally the Lord of Steel. Is this another bullshit Manowar world record attempt?
