Enslaved - Sample Of New Song Online

Norwegian metallers Enslaved have premiered the sample of a brand new track from their forthcoming album and you can listen to it at this location, where guitarist Ivar Peersen and vocalist and bassist Grutle Kjellson discuss the new album and recording process. Both the song and the album title have not been revealed yet, although the album is expected to be released this October via Nuclear Blast Records.

Guitarist Ivar Peersen said about the new album: "We've given more space to it all this time around. More space to the melodic stuff, more space to the prog flavor and '70s-inspiration, there are glimpses of some doom, some good Voivod-style thrash, some cool guitar solos. All the little things that we like we have provided even more room for. It's the 'more is more'-philosophy. We've given up on the structural stuff once and for all. It's not for us. So there's not much verse-chorus-verse on the new record. We have tried a few places, but no one even hears that it is an attempt at a chorus."

Did I see Voivod being mentioned here, by any chance? Should be interesting, this.

Fuck. Yes. You could certainly hear some Voivod influence on Vertebrae I think, and any more influence would be welcome. Love how fast they manage to make new material. I'll be waiting all day to hear this thing. This band will never let me down.

Edit: Whoa, non verse-chorus is a huge departure from the last record. I know they can pull it off though. One of the few bands that never refuses to progress...

Didn't like the sample. Sounded like wimpy post rock.

There is nothing to figure it out of the track to be honest but then I thought i should add this news. Otherwise, I was ignoring it.

Sounded a bit odd, unpolished. the big problem is their last album was so awesome, the bar has been set ridiculously high.

Love this quote on the move to Nuclear Blast:

"If we could move from 250 to 400 capacity clubs in the U.S. to 600-1000, that's definitely a goal reached. Getting just a little bit bigger, so that we can do a bigger production at our shows. Do something more with the lights and shoot salmon on the audience with cannons and stuff ? Haha."

seems i'll have to be ready to duck flying fish next time i see 'em.

Well as long as they don't start blasting stolen sheep at people...

But yeah, obviously that's not the final product so I presume it lacks some of the oomph the alpha-version of that song will have, but, it does sound somewhat watered down and veering alarmingly back toward heavy black floyd. I just hope it still retains a bit of black metal here and there.

I think the article says the tracks haven't been mastered yet, so that's probably why it sounds a little thin.

I hope the whole album isn't as proggy though. I really dug the aggressive vibe of the last album, which was in my top five of 2010. We'll see I guess.
