UPDATE: Season Of Mist has released an official statement on Trondr Nefas' death, available below.

We are deeply sorry to announce that Urgehal vocalist / guitarist Trond Bråthen, aka Trondr Nefas, passed away last week. Aged 34, Trond died of natural causes.

His fellow bandmates Uruz and Enzifer issued the following statement: "The greatest is gone. Trondr Nefas, our dearest friend and companion for more than 20 years, suddenly passed away last week. He died a peaceful and natural death at one of his favourite places, surrounded by woods and crystal lakes. Thanks for all the years with friendship, music and madness. For the good times and the bad times. Through your dark devotion for Black Metal, you have inspired so many. You were a true pioneer."

"We will miss you, but never forget you, because your legacy will live on. Our deepest sympathy goes to Trond's fiancée Octavia, and both of their families. We appreciate all of the condolences and support given to us after his tragic death. Sammen var vi dynamitt!"

Trond will be sorely missed as a man and as a musician. The whole Season Of Mist staff send their condolences to his family and to the Urgehal camp.

[Thanks to Array for the update!]

According to MA, 35. (they also posted it was suicide... didn't see anything official though).

It's sad... couple days ago I was watching the trailers of "A Black Metal Year In Norway" (documentary by him), he seemed a really nice guy.

This is incredibly sad news. He was a great musician.

I especially loved Angst Skvadron. I still listen to "Flukt" at least once a week.

Natural causes at 34? I doubt it. Either drug-related or self-inflicted, possibly accidental but not purely natural based on his age.

"Natural causes" could mean a lot of things. As long as his death wasn't caused by an accident, suicide or another person it would be listed as natural.

^ This. I searched about it a while ago to get rid of some doubts. Heart-attack counts as natural death for example, any illness as well.

Exactly, it is a very broad statement and leaves alot to wonder, especially considering his age and no previously mentioned terminal illnesses. They couldve been a lil more specific... but maybe they dont even know yet.

It could be natural cause. Disease can happen at any age, for example.
But I highly doubt the death was caused by natural cause in this case.

I wouldn't consider a disease to be natural. The dictionary's definition of a disease is an abnormal ailment or an organism working incorrectly. That doesn't sound very natural to me.

I wouldn't consider a disease to be natural. The dictionary's definition of a disease is an abnormal ailment or an organism working incorrectly. That doesn't sound very natural to me.

From Wikikwiki-Slim Shady-pedia:

Death due to disease is called death by natural causes. There are four main types of disease: pathogenic disease, deficiency disease, hereditary disease, and physiological disease.

In contrast, death caused by active intervention is called unnatural death. The "unnatural" causes are usually given as accident (implying no unreasonable voluntary risk), misadventure (accident following a wilful and dangerous risk), suicide, or homicide.[1] In some settings, other categories may be added

"Natural" doesn't have to be seen as a positive thing. Just because something in nature went wrong doesn't mean it's not natural. We could die of old age because an organ fails to work correctly but then "old age" is not recognised as a means of death so when people cite that as a "natural cause of death" they're basically being extremely vague and inaccurate.

For some reason before reading this I felt the opposite. Makes sense now anyway.

Shame! I'd imagine there was some sort of satanic theme to his death, but I could be wrong. I'll probably end up listening to some of Urgehal's stuff now..

He didn't kill himself, it was no OD. The police didn't consider it necessary to make an autopsy and neither did we. He had been going through a lot of effort getting to the cabin and hadn't slept during that night. When he finally fell asleep, his bare feet were touching the ground, and it was rather cold. During his sleep, either a heart attack or brain concussion occurred (he was blue when they found him). Natural enough? I can tell it was a peaceful death and in no way self-inflicted. He had for long been on his way to getting in better health. He was at peace with himself and with the ones he left behind. Full of plans and optimism, and, as he stated himself, feeling better than he could ever remember. Apparently he had achieved what he needed on this sorry ass planet. Death is complete.

Nothing goth about me...or about Rorschach. But does that have anything to do with the matter? If so, I was just trying to dissolve some rumors and give some answers to people who wondered about a serious matter. If not, you're far out fishing on the wrong topic. Cheers.
