Shining - New Album Title Revealed
Sweden's extreme metal act Shining has announced Redefining Darkness as the title for the band's upcoming eight album. Unlike the previous seven album titles, this one will not be prefaced with a number.
Frontman Kvarforth comments: "The use of numbers to describe our albums is no longer something that Shining is interested in doing. The new album is without a doubt the darkest thing I have ever done or heard. People will be upset for sure - and hopefully its divine genius will destroy the lives of thousands."
Redefining Darkness is set for release on Spinefarm Records International later this year.

Hopefully they'll continue with furthering the sound of their last full-length. I've given up on hoping for a return to their more extreme and atmospheric style and I've learned to embrace this somewhat progressive side. We'll see what happens anyway. I've always enjoyed Kvarforth as a frontman and I'm sure even if the music isn't anything mesmerizing he'll still somehow make it interesting.

Unlike a lot of his contemporaries, Kvarforth does not adhere to the same formula release after release. I think though he has struggled to introduce the progressive elements without distracting from the dark atmospheric style you mention above, overall, the recent albums have been engaging (at least for me).

If the last album is anything to go by, I'm expecting almost a complete stylistic department from what we once knew as Shining. Will be interesting to see what comes out of this, but I'm not holding on to my panties.
