Ghost B.C. - Album Release Delayed Due To Blasphemous Art

Swedish occult rockers Ghost B.C. face yet another controversy. The band had to change their name from Ghost to Ghost B.C. for legal reasons and now one piece of the Infestissumam deluxe version artwork was reportedly deemed too sacrilegious by some US manufacturers which have refused to print it thus delaying its release in North America. However, the original artwork can still be found on both the vinyl and European copies of the album. It seems like this will generate even more buzz around the release of the opus.

According to SPIN.com, the band's upcoming album Infestissumam was scheduled to come out April 9th, but instead it has been pushed back a week to April 16th because four compact disc manufacturers have refused to print a piece of artwork that was destined for the deluxe version of the new album. The manufacturers all took issue with the sacrilegious imagery, forcing Ghost B.C. to come up with an alternate plan.

"We kept on getting turned down because of the CD art, which is basically a 16th century illustration of an orgy," a source close to the band told SPIN. The illustration, inspired by the work of Gustave Doré, showcases what looks like a nymph orgy, but it's the religious iconography at the top that convinced manufacturers to turn off the printing press.

Even though the Infestissumam booklets had all been printed, the band struggled to find anyone in the States to print the CD for them. "They weren't surprised. The comment was 'Well, I thought this would have happened sooner,'" the source said. "The artwork was meant to provoke some sort of thought, but it's been one obstacle after another."

In order to avoid delaying the album release any longer, Ghost B.C. opted to reuse the CD art found on the standard edition of their album. The artwork, a collaboration between Polish artist Zbignew Bielak II and a Nameless Ghoul, is key to an elaborate deluxe package that features each song's lyrics accompanied by a illustration to form a narrative within the music. The controversial art will be available in vinyl and European copies of the Infestissumam CD. "Vinyl manufacturers don't have a problem with the artwork. Neither does Europe."

The artwork that caused the shock

Grumpy Old Fuck
Btw Marxists/socialists and such are NOT liberals. Better look up the meaning of liberalism in the dictionary and, gee, what do you find there?

"a theory in economics emphasizing individual freedom from restraint and usually based on free competition, the self-regulating market, and the gold standard"

so totally NOT left wing politics at all.

Obama would be at the right wing of quite a few right wing parties here and would never be a member of any of the left wing parties.

Let alone any left wing parties from south america hahahahahaha.

Man the U.S. really sucks. Albums come out later here in the first place then stupid shit like this in what is supposed to be one of the most liberal nations on Earth. Clearly the printers are owned by republicans. Fucking dickless conservatives...

WTF? It's the fucking bleeding heart liberal cunts who want to control, regulate, or outlaw everything under the sun here. They shit on the constitution on a daily basis, taxing the living shit out of everyone, ruining free enterprise and forcing their agenda down the entire country's throat through any means necessary. Obama and his Marxist cohorts are one of the worst disasters to hit this country since 911.

then why they print porn dvd artorls? why they make porn magasines, penis, jism and big boobs can be insulting to

If I understand what you were trying to say here (lol "jism") I think the difference is that porn isn't just lying around on any old shelf whereas at the record store 8 year old Billy could take a wrong turn looking for his favourite Lady Gaga CD and end up peeping the blasphemous Ghost artwork...

Cannibal Corpse's 2012 album basically got censored in this way, so all the gory corpses hanging from hooks weren't visible to a passerby, but the design of the sleeve was clever and when you unsheathed the album you could see the whole artwork. IMO this approach is the smartest because the glancing folk don't see the offensive part and the people who buy the album and take it out of the sleeve anyways won't mind seeing it.

Despite all this talk of freedom of this and that, I can understand why some people wouldn't want to look at the new Ghost cover or a Cannibal Corpse cover or whatever, and I don't think censorship is out of the question when graphic or possibly disturbing subject matter is in question but I do think there's other ways around it without making the original intended artwork unavailable to the North American audience in CD format...

Ellrohir got it right, they have freedom to print whatever art they want, but the cd folks have their own rights as well. the same rights this site uses when not promoting goosestepping nazitard bands.

If you mean one where people are easily offended, I agree. For certain things though, it is understandable that some people can be upset.

amusingly it was largely coincidental, i was pointing out you were right in your assertion - and the biggest local version was used simply because it inverts the situation, where the metal is rejecting the ideology rather than the ideology rejecting the metal. didn't want to get in to the players in that discussion, only the notion because a lot of people are quite fine with the reverse of hte situation they are howling about above.
