Dan Swanö - Signs Deal With Century Media

Century Media Records has signed a long term worldwide deal with Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Swanö. The label will release the debut album The Inheritance from Witherscape, his new project, in late July 2013.

Dan Swanö has been involved in many bands/projects (Edge Of Sanity, Nightingale, etc.), but he is also known for the work at his own Unisound studio: Opeth, Katatonia, Dissection, Merciless, Dark Funeral, Hail Of Bullets, Marduk, Millencolin or Nasum, among others.

Dan Swanö had the following to say about the signing: "It's been 23 years since I signed my first ever record-deal, but never before have I been this excited... I have now signed with Century Media Records! I bought the first release from Century Media back in 1989, and it is amazing to see how much the label has grown over the years. After working with CM for a few compilation CDs and for two and a half albums with Bloodbath, I knew it would be the perfect home for me whenever I felt like returning to the recording industry as a performer again. And now... I am back! With a vengeance!"

The first result of the fresh co-operation between Dan Swanö and Century Media will be the release of his newly founded metal outfit Witherscape, which sees Dan teaming with another talented multi-instrumentalist, Ragnar Widerberg, for a concept album.

Swanö comments on the upcoming Witherscape album: "I have just completed the final mixes of the first album from my new project Witherscape. Fans of my Moontower album and the catchier parts of Edge Of Sanity won't be disappointed! I sing, both clean and growl, play drums and keyboards. Ragnar Widerberg plays all guitars & bass and has co-written almost all the tracks with me."

I have no idea who Ragnar Widerberg is, but if he can play guitar / bass half as good as he can grow a mustache then we are in for a treat!

He is an unknown, and has never played in a metal band before according to the second post on this forum.

That mustache is definitely really freakin' epic!

He's also mastered a lot of albums, even from the underground. I highly recommend Barra Xul, a local band from the Maritimes that play horror-themed extreme metal.

On a more related note, I cannot wait for more Dan Swano. His appearance in Bilocate's newest was great!

This is STUPENDOUS NEWS! I've been hoping for some kick-ass metal news lately... this suffices ten-fold. Dan's been quiet for too long, it's about time! I also highly anticipate the arrival of the next Nightingale album...? Am I being greedy?

Any 30+ metal lover will get wet undies when they read this. I know I did. AND, the fact that it's Century Media that picks him up, makes it look even more promising.

It's Dan Swanö, the man is a legend in the metal community, he could likely have his pick of whatever label he wants so the fact he chose Century Media doesn't really say anything about this records musical potential.

No but it says something about the style of the music. There will be no "bubblegum"-pop that's for sure.

Not that I mind this news - Moontower and stuff is great - but I wonder what happened to the Nightingale album that was supposed to have been released like 2 years ago or something?

I.
