00:03 - Korah Yeah, MS ratings on new albums are totally f****ed! You just have to watch ratings from 2000 and ratings from 2016! Metal was'nt so much better than today releases.
23:53 - Czerny Reiter There's a dearth of reviewers on the site and most of what gets reviewed ends up getting a good grade (on the grounds that pro-bono reviewers mostly review what appeals to them).
23:48 - Overrwatcher I feel as if SSUS's review backlash is a perfect example of this. When he gave a 2/10 people didn't say much. When he gave a 9/10 people questioned his review integrity.
23:42 - Overrwatcher I will always bring up BMTH's "There Is A Hell" in this regard. Very well received literally everywhere but MS. Here it's one of the lowest rated albums in the database.
23:38 - Overrwatcher Bands can put out similar quality records to 10 years ago yet get over 1 point less. People have been much more negative recently. And MS also seems to shit on some albums at random.
23:36 - Overrwatcher I'd say that MS is generally somewhat close to the general consensus, with exceptions. Melodeath gets overrated, metalcore underrated. And there is a notable difference in modern album scores.
23:28 - !J.O.O.E.! One could argue that that album's appeal is underground =V
And the moment has arrived to finally hear something from the first Jon Oliva's solo album. The song "Father Time" (taken from the upcoming album Raise The Curtain) is now available for you to enjoy through the YouTube lyric video located below. The track was written by Jon Oliva and Criss Oliva. Jon Oliva is the known mastermind of Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Jon Oliva's Pain, among other projects.
As previously reported, Jon Oliva announced that he will release his first-ever solo album under the banner Oliva on June 21st in Europe and July 2nd in North America via AFM Records. The 11-song album contains ideas collected over the course of the last four or five years and it was tracked at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida with producer Tom Morris.
Raise The Curtain tracklist:
01. Raise The Curtain
02. Soul Chaser
03. Ten Years
04. Father Time
05. I Know
06. Big Brother
10. The Witch
11. Can't Get Away
12. The Truth [bonus track]
Title track is up on YouTube. I find the release most intriguing, with the addition of horns in a few numbers a brilliant sound, IMO. "The Witch" has an amazing, almost 'funky' tone outside the chorus, and "Stalker", while maintaining the basic tempo, has superb time signature changes that, well.... perhaps best to just bang one's head to. "Soldier" is a mellow quiet number with a definite message in the lyrics..... Overall, a great release by a great man!
