Apparently, the Swedes Sabaton are being considered Nazis and their performance in Stalingrad is in jeopardy. The band was supposed to play a show in Russia next weekend but now political people and organizations are trying to prevent the band from entering Russia due to some politician who tries to convince the Russian immigration and government that Sabaton are Nazis. Curiously enough, the band recently played in Russia in support of Iron Maiden.

Sabaton has released the following statement expressing their surprise: "Did the Nazis win the battle of Stalingrad? We have been reached by the news that some organizations and political representatives who claims to have studied us has come to the conclusion that Sabaton are a nazi band, and because of that our scheduled appearance at the 70th anniversary of the battle of Stalingrad should be cancelled. This show is to take place in a few weeks in Volgograd."

"Further, these people believe that we will desecrate the Russian flag during our concert (which we have never done and of course have no intention of doing) and they are now trying their best to ban Sabaton from all of Russia! We know that the people of Russia is far more intelligent than this and thus we hope that reason will allow us to play this concert in honor of this historical event and the Soviet soldiers who fought for their freedom. Sabaton is and has always been a non-political and non-religious band and holds a lot of respect to the veterans of war and the heroic and non-selfish acts that was performed in a time of need."

"Ps. It should be noted that Sabaton has been awarded honorary membership of the Scions of the 17th Airborne Division, an organization that consists of veterans from the very same airborne division who fought against the nazis in The battle of the Bulge and Operation Varsity."

Good one, Marcel.

Well, honestly, I feel ashamed being Russian. There are plenty of stupid and clueless people here. I'm not a fan of Sabaton, but I hope they will be allowed to play after all.

I hate the band's music with a passion but banning them for so-called Nazism is preposterous. nothing Nazi about them at all. If they get for that Russian authorities should also prosecute all the neo-nazi groups running rampant in the country luring and torturing gays and such.

It will never happen, till Putin will rule and goverment need those gangs to do dirty job, beat someone up etc .... we can hope they will not be so powerful to get elected
Nothing will not change there if UN and international society will make preasure, but nobody will do it because of Sabaton,

I agree with you, but sadly we see that Cold War attitude is still alive in some people on the both sides of the Atlantic.
Hopefully it will die out in time...
As for Russian metalheads, we are pretty lucky because we got tons of great metal bands playing gig or even doing tours here. So... I feel sorry only for Sabaton fans.
Golden Wing - 15.08.2013 at 18:21
Stupidness indeed. These politicians are sure that after that case with Bloodhound Gang every western band is a big threat to Russian flag. Nowadays our dearest government is more concerned about "protecting" Russia from some made-up problems, instead of taking care of Stalingrad Battle veterans welfare, for instance.
Don't care about this band as well, but this narrow-mindness just pissed me off. Actually, i'm surprised that in my city such big event can take place

I don't care about neither Spartak nor Zenit. I'm a CSKA fan.
On a serious note, I know what you mean, but, as you already mentioned, it's not like we can really change the way things are here as long as Mr. Putin sits on his throne. And he isn't likely to give up his reign anytime soon.

Russia is on it's good way to become the 21st century's East Germany.
Mattybu - 16.08.2013 at 04:20
Good for them. Keep those Nazis out of there! Get them off of MS too while we're at it.

Why can't you people recognize Sabaton is a Nazi band? Haven't you read the lyrics to Primo Victoria? They say through the "NAZI LINES" in them. Sorry but you can't argue with facts/science. It always wins.
mathead - 16.08.2013 at 23:41
I knew little about Sabaton untill I read this news in the Nuclear Blast Newsletter, so I fired up YouTube and the first song I stimble upon: Primo Victoria:
Through the gates of hell
As we make our way to heaven
Through the nazi lines
Primo victoria

Oh yeah! I can clearly decipher the hidden Nazi message here.

Seriously: this must be one of the few clearly anti-nazi messages I ever encountered in Metal lyrics.
The Evergreen - 18.08.2013 at 06:51
I was at a Sabaton show... the words "Fuck Hitler" came up...
If there is a more directly ANTI-nazi band than Sabaton, I don't know about them.

Idiots will be stupid...

Here's hoping this gets dropped.
Metaalkop86 - 19.08.2013 at 12:26
Those Russians are just retarded. If they do the effort to actually listen to Sabaton's lyrics, they will notice that they just sing about what happened in history, it's not as if they choose sides or anything.
Valentin B - 19.08.2013 at 13:55
Which city is this "Stalingrad"? last I heard it was renamed "Volgograd" in order to try and wash away the awful legacy that one of the most evil men to ever live left.

And to be honest I have no idea where this is coming from. If there is just one anti-nazi band in metal, it is Sabaton. They have around 6-7 songs that clearly criticize the regime. The only song I can think of that may indicate to this is "Ghost Division", but that was just one tiny group of Nazi Germany's army, which was never convicted or suspected of war crimes.

But there are also real neo-nazi groups in Russia who are actually doing a lot of damage to society. This is wrong on so many levels.
Egigantea - 20.08.2013 at 05:13
I guess you can say they did nazi that commin.

(boy that was awful)
