Ulver - New Release Streaming Online

Ulver are currently streaming their new release Messe I.X-VI.X online through their Bandcamp page. The music on Messe I.X-VI.X was composed for and recorded with the Tromsø Chamber Orchestra and first performed live. You can now listen to its ambitious studio version.

You can also pre-order the CD and vinyl formats for a 23rd September release on Kscope here.

The band also posted the following on Facebook: "Dear parish, as CDs are airborne - and leakage is imminent - we have decided to accelerate the digital release on our own platforms. We have held back as long as we can. Messe I.X-VI.X is now available from our webshop and Bandcamp. Just like that. Again: we urge all conscientious music lovers to purchase digital from our platforms. WAV and all other formats at Bandcamp, 320 kbps MP3 via our webshop. Spotify and iTunes will follow in September, along with the release of Kscope's standard editions. Please share and spread the word. We hope you enjoy the somber sound of the wolves' mass."

The music was commissioned last year by the Tromsø Kulturhus (House of Culture) in Norway, in a cooperation with the Arctic Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra cultural institution. It was composed and first performed live by Ulver, alongside the Tromsø Chamber Orchestra on September 21st, 2012. The band then took the recordings back to Oslo and spent winter and spring in post-production, honing the material for its studio-equivalent.

Six compositions altogether written and produced, recorded and mixed by Ulver, this time consisting of Ole Alexander Halstensgård, Kristoffer Rygg, Jørn H. Sværen and Tore Ylwizaker, with additional aid and advice from composer Martin Romberg who also arranged the music for the 21 members of Tromsø Chamber Orchestra. The album also features the talents of contemporary composers/musicians Ole-Henrik Moe and Kari Rønnekleiv.

I'm not reading any "whining". Just some guys giving an early release to their digital formats. Nothing more to it.

whining? just because they ask people to actually buy the product and not steal it? I can't recognize any whining, so please educate me

Go to their website. They are self-admitted whiners about illegal downloading. They wrote an entire article about it and referred to the article as "their whining". Taken from their website:

"The new boutique is doing well. We are glad to see there are so many of you who have taken our whining to heart and stored up with old and new titles. We know digital is ethereal. But you trading directly with us makes all the difference".

Enough education?

P.S. - I'm not being a jerk about it. I only called it whining only because they called it whining. However, I do think they need to keep it to themselves like most other bands do. Illegal downloading is inevitable, unfortunately.

I follow the band. They have always been one of my favorite bands. Their website is filled with complaints of illegal downloading. Every press release contains a remark or two about it. Though I wholeheartedly agree with them, I don't think they should be so openly against it as EVERY other artist is suffering the pitfalls of the digital age and, for the most part, you don't hear them complaining. I'm not being a dick about it

Ordered my copy a while ago.

i suppose my biggest whine is i paid double for a physical copy what they're charging on bandcamp... but won't have full access* to the album for another month and a half or whenever it arrives in the mail.

would be great if free dl's were available to those who ordered physical copies.

*band camp is swell, but would be great to have on spotify/itunes on my phone, or the files on my mp3 player.

I know you weren't. Just giving my two cents and then I read your previous comment explaining it further (if you had written the explanation in your first comment I wouldn't have quoted you at all). Honest mistake as I agree with you if what you say is true.

I've seen this a couple of times when I buy some stuff. It's a shame not everybody does it. :\
