Metallica - Streaming Demo Version Of New Song

In case you didn't know, Metallica debuted a new song this past weekend in Bogotá, Columbia. The eight-minute song is called "Lords Of Summer" and now you can listen to a garage demo version of the track right here. The band just posted the demo on their official YouTube channel and now you can enjoy it.

The band is currently doing their Metallica By Request shows where fans who attend the concerts choose the set list. They also reserved a spot for a new song.

Metallica has been working on their new album and "Lords Of Summer" is the first new material to be unveiled since Death Magnetic and Beyond Magnetic. Do you think the song is promising for what the new album can bring?

Starts drifting aimlessly towards the end, but still, it's quite a decent song.

Not a bad as I thought it was going to be, but somehow I know they're going to fuck this up like they always do.

They're getting so old they keep forgetting that they already played the intended riff so they play it again... I think that happened a couple times, hence 8+ minutes.

Way too long for my liking. What happened to the art of writing a 4-5 minute punchy rock/metal song. They've written some awesome longer songs in the past - "Fade to Black", "Master of Puppets" and "One" instantly coming to my mind, but this isn't in the same class. I agree it sounds a bit like "Blackened" a bit there and I was surprised when I looked back and realised that song is over six minutes.

Very Death Magnetic (which I liked a lot); I suppose it makes sense. I don't know if this song really needed to be 8 minutes long. Either, they need to spice it up with some new ideas or they need to trim this down to maybe five or six minutes.

Hmmm, I don't think the song is that bad. I find it to be quite decent, but still, there's something that's bugging me about it. I feel like some parts are kinda forced, and they could've been written better. The production is also not at the level I wish it would be. Then again, this is only a "garage demo" version, so I guess a lot of things could easily change on the official version.

It's nice of Metallica to share this with us. I just hope they can take some constructive criticism regarding the song.

Sounds like Metallica but played with the skill-level of 14yr old musicians..

It's definitely got the right "sound" to it, almost sounding classic Metallica which is cool but its just so goddamn boring! They play the same goddam riff over an over and it a sounds too watered-down and simplistic, needs more layers, power and complexity.

It has good ideas for a decent classic thrash song... the only problem is it should be around five minutes instead of eight. It just screams for a guitar solo in place of one of the verses during the first half, to not make the speed become a drag.

I think this is a very good song, even though it clearly isn't in the same ball park as Metallica's best material in terms of quality. I'd be amazed if this song makes the new album in it's present state, as it feels like it needs some more work to make it into something special. However, there is enough promise shown by this song to make me at least cautiously optimistic for the new album which is on the horizon. There is some good riffs on offer, and I like the solo, but where's the bass? Funnily enough though, this "demo" has much better sound than the final production of "Death Magnetic". Please stay away from Greg Fidelman and Rick Rubin this time guys!

It is good but as a 5 minutes song. Sounds like something between DM and AJFA. Drums are OK for me and better than what I expected. The only weakness of this song (except its duration) is vocal...
