Japanese avantgarde metallers Sigh posted a message on their Facebook page stating that they parted with the long-time guitarist Shinichi Ishikawa, and he is to be replaced by You Oshima (Kadenzza). Originally, Oshima had been announced as a guest on their new album.

The statement goes like this: "We have been rehearsing with our new guitarist, You Oshima from Kadenzza. We thought it'd take a while to get accustomed to each other, I mean we'd have to get used to his groove and he'd have to learn our own style. But we were completely wrong. We felt as if he had been playing with us for 20 years from the first session. A pleasant surprise for sure. His stage debut with Sigh will be on July 17th, the gig with Emperor in Tokyo."

They've also issued a statement about the reasons Shinichi got kicked out: "So you guys want to know what's happened to Shinichi? Well, to be honest I want to know what happened to him. Here's the photo I had to send him to prove that his guitar was COMPLETELY out of tune. Now he even cannot tune his guitar right. Then what could we do other than asking him to leave? This is no joke or exaggeration. This is 100% sheer truth. We seriously wonder what is happening with him."

I don't understand what this photo is supposed to represent, but I'm sure it's an overwhelming proof

Neither do I. I thought it was a picture of a floor with some slugs on it.

Find it hard to believe that someone who's played for Sigh for 22 years wouldn't be able to tune their guitar properly.

It's graph, which showing a musical notes. When everything is okay, note line looks most straight, but when something isn't okay and f.ex. strings are detuned, then everything looks like this.

This is really sketchy. Shinichi has been with the band for 22 years. And he gets kicked out for this?
NocturnalStalker - 15.06.2014 at 19:49
Well, who knows what has happened in reality? At the same time, I'm looking forward to the collaboration of Mirai and You, two musicians whom I respect very much.

The reason they gave is kind of bullshit, I suspect something else is going on where he is not performing as usual and they won't go into details. I love Sigh and this worries me.

But then again it could actually be a medical issue affecting his hearing perhaps. If a guitarist is unable to tune his guitar properly, then I'd actually be seriously worried for either their physical or mental health. If Sigh wanted to cover up something, wouldn't it just be easier to say "due to complication within the band"? There's no reason for this excuse to be fake.

Most guitarist use tuners with their guitars, especially when recording. So I doubt it's a medical issue unless he has perfect pitch and has been relying on it for 22 years. Even then, for an album, most people would use a tuner.

It's not that the reason is fake, but just not the real reason, or the full details.

Anyway, Sigh wasn't ever very much about guitars. I take it that it won't change much

Their guitar leads are amazing and add a lot to the music

Yeah they kinda are guitar based =P they use a lot of other instruments but the guitars are still the main thing.

Albums like Gallows Gallery would be nothing without those great guitars... In any case I wouldn't be too worried. Mirai Kawashima seems to be the guy behind most if not all Sigh things anyways.

I just don't get this at all.
BlackEssence - 16.06.2014 at 09:49
2 months ago, when they anounced that You Oshima will record guitars for them, someone on facebook asked about Shinichi, then Sigh replied: who is Shinichi? So it's very strange still.
UnknownCheese - 16.06.2014 at 13:53
What do they need him for anyway? They seem more content playing circus music these days.
