There is a new supergroup in town and they are called Escapethecult. The band has announced details of their debut album and unveiled a teaser video for it. Escapethecult began life in 2008 as the brainchild of bassist Peter G. Shallmin of Siberian band Kamlath. He was joined by drummer Tim Alexander formerly of Primus and A Perfect Circle, Swedish guitar virtuoso Mike Wead of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate, and French vocalist Matthieu Romarin, from Uneven Structure. Their debut record All You Want To will be released on the 18th of August with the first single "I'm Absolute" available on June 30th.

Shallmin comments: "It was dynamic and exciting start, with blood, sweat and tears shed throughout the process and a long exhausted preparation for the attack. Every day was worth to make it real. We were sincere in our ideas that are embodied in our debut."

Watch the teaser which features the band's song "Where No Grown Up Grapes". Does it sound promising?

God I disliked the vocals in a matter of two seconds. French vocalists should really work on their English enunciation. He sounds like he has yoghurt in his mouth. Reminds me of this :

I didn't really hear any problems with his pronunciation, perhaps because I've heard so much from him on Uneven Structure's Februus.

Did you watch the video I illustrated my comment with?
I only hear stretched vowels, can't understand a single word he says, and the way he sings is so typical of French vocalists singing in English. He sounds like a stereotype to me. I know what you're going to say, there are a million vocalists who don't clearly pronounce their lyrics and still are good. But he does so in a way that makes me hear only his accent which I find annoying.

To be fair, I can't hear a single word he's saying and when I tried to sing along to one of Uneven Structure's songs I found that he sings in a very unusual way, and not necessarily in a good way.

Ah. It must be the way you perceive what I heard very clearly. I can't find an example to show you what we call "doing the yoghurt", but it's exactly what he and many other French guys do when they sing their English lyrics. Distort those vowels to the max and go easy on the consonants to hide that accent.

Indeed, that does appear to be their tactic

The vocals are indeed quite shitty which is weird because his delivering on Februus is much MUCH better. Both cleans and growls.

Thank you.
In Uneven Structure he has less "time" to distort this way. I guess it didn't bother me much in the six or seven songs I heard from them. But It was enough for me to notice it.

I was honestly surprised to hear him.. you Know... Suck. One of the things I enjoy the most about Uneven Structure are the vocals! xD
In any case... For french fellas singing cleanly in english, I'd take Klone instead.

I don't know how that guy sounds at all. To be honest, off the the top of my head, I can't think of any good French vocalist who does them clean, in Metal I mean. That might be because I'm not a fan of prog and power. We have too many of those in France.
