Sylosis - Split With Drummer, Announce Replacement

British quartet Sylosis have recently confirmed that they have parted ways with their long time drummer Rob Callard. Rob has been part of the band since the inception in 2000, and has contributed his share on three studio albums. With Rob's stepping down, Sylosis are excited to announce the arrival of Ali Richardson on drums. Ali has been a close friend of the band and previously filled in behind the kit on some live dates earlier this year when Sylosis toured with DevilDriver and Ali's own band Bleed From Within which he will be continuing alongside Sylosis.

The band commented: "Today we are sadly saying goodbye to our long time drummer, Rob Callard. We're happy to say on good terms. We've been friends for many years and remain friends outside the band's activities! However, we are in the lucky position that Ali Richardson has joined us in Rob's place and we're excited for the future with him!"

Rob Callard shared his thoughts: "Having spent the last 9 years recording music and touring around the world with Sylosis, I have had some of the most memorable experiences of my life. Sylosis has some of the most dedicated and awesome fans and I am honoured to have played a part in music that is so well received.

"Unfortunately I can no longer dedicate 100% of my time to the touring schedule and therefore to be fair to the band and fans I will step down and allow another drummer to take my place. I want to say a massive thanks to Alex Bailey, Carl Parnell, Josh Middleton, Adam Foster, Julia Matthews, John Matthews, Stuart Callard, Andrew Matthews, Neil Callard, Abby Vickers, Mike Creech, Malcolm McKenzie, Kelly Renda, Jaap Wagemaker, anyone else involved with the band and every single fan that loves our music or came to one of our shows. It's been an absolute pleasure."

Ali Richardson on joining Sylosis: "Very excited to announce that I am now a part of the Sylosis family. I filled in for Rob when Sylosis toured together with my band, Bleed From Within, and DevilDriver. I had a total blast on the tour and had great fun playing the songs in a live environment, so it was a no brainer when they asked me to join full time due to Rob's departure. Thanks to my brothers in Bleed From Within for letting me take on another band as well as my own, thanks to Josh, Bailey and Carl for this opportunity, and I want to wish Rob all the best for the future. Cheers!"

When I saw them live Rob Callard kicked some serious butt.

Whether or not he's necessarily the most gifted of drummers, Rob was perfectly adept enough for their style and put some pretty cool parts and rhythms into the music throughout their discog (Awakening and Eclipsed come immediately to mind), so I'm glad for his contributions to my favourite band and wish him the best. Still, I saw them play with the new guy recently and he covered the songs without a hitch so the transition shouldn't be a problem. Although I'm not particularly keen on BFW's stuff so hopefully he won't bring much influence from their stuff over.
