Melechesh - Unveil New Album Cover Art, Release Pushed

Mere days after they announced the first details of their new album, Melechesh have now revealed the cover art for the band's impending studio album, Enki. Furthermore, due to unforeseen productional issues, the release of Enki had to be pushed to February 27th (Europe), March 2nd (UK) and March 10th (US), 2015 through Nuclear Blast Records. Take a look at the intricate artwork now.

Commented mainman, singer and guitarist Ashmedi: "For the artwork we collaborated again with John Coulthart, who has done our previous two album covers. The art reflects the dynamics of the album and the world of Melechesh: order and chaos. It amalgamates several spiritual, cultural and mythological concepts from the Near/Middle East and our lyrical aspects. Again it was based in the golden ratio which for the purpose of this album seemed suitable. The pillars featured here are a continuation from the previous album and lead to a path of knowledge. John always manages to capture the essence of Melechesh."

Well on the one hand that's a fucking beautifully done cover, on the other some people might say it's a bit too extravagant? I remember Rod and I talking once about how their cover for Sphynx is his favorite because of the really "less is more" approach, just that little dude standing under the giant lamassu, and that's a point I can get behind.

I personally wouldn't call this well done. It's far, far too busy, and it also has a Seth Siro Anton quality about where the components don't look like they even belong together because of bad layering, shading (or lack thereof) etc. There's no depth to it, despite some haphazard attempts at perspective drawing with those columns.

I don't like any Melechesh covers to be honest. This one is no different. Luckily I usually really dig the music.

If they took away a few elements it would have been pretty nice indeed. Just too busy. As Che said... Sphynx is still my favorite piece from their discography.

I wouldn't compare it to Seth's artwork at all, but I can see what you mean in the sense that it seems a little too grandiose for it's own good. Also, maybe it's just me, but that outline is totally reminding me of The Holy Mountain poster. Jodorowsky thanks you for your services, Ashmedi

I used to thought that those who were raised in the middle east wouldn't see it that way. It looks like an american stereotype of the middle east.

I guess they really love Persian mythology, as an Iranian I don't see any problems with the artwork, except that I've seen these things too many times here and there. There ARE other things in Persian mythology. xD

Good point XD

But I really dislike this cover. Seems like an amalgamation of random elements.

Actually that's a good idea, maybe the garlic sauce will help bring cohesion to all those elements that never should be put together that way on a cover.

Perhaps, or maybe just to overwhelm the whole mess with garlic? To tie into the middle eastern theme music and now food, my favorite online chef recently posted this recipe which I intend on making soon and it does seem like an odd mix of flavors...

Good job on trying to hide the band's logo. Terrible perspective, terrible shading, layering was probably done in MS Paint. The horror!

Am I the only one who thinks the "bad" layering was done on purpose, like to invoke a feeling of those egyptian wall scriptings?

This cover art needs to be toned way the fuck down with the bright colors and given more depth. Then maybe it would look decent.

To be fair, though, their cover art never looked amazing. Great cover art is always a nice bonus, but what matters most is the musical content itself.
