Well, now the latest feature film from acclaimed Icelandic director Ragnar Bragason is streaming online at Vimeo-On-Demand for selected countries at this location with English subtitles. Sounds like a fun thing to do this weekend: watch Metalhead!

Available territories for Vimeo-On-Demand are: Denmark, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Finland, Israel, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Hong Kong/Macao, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Mongolia, Malaysia, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia Bhutan, Lebanon, U.A.E., Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgian Republic (incl. Metalhead centers around a girl growing up in the shadow of a family tragedy on a remote farm in Iceland and dreams of becoming a rock star. A dark, intense drama of faith, loss and heavy metal music in the 80s and early 90s, fueled by a remarkable breakout performance by actress Thorbjörg Helga. Featuring a soundtrack of headbanging classics by Judas Priest, Megadeth, Riot, Savatage, Lizzy Borden, Sólstafir and more.

The film premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and has been traveling to festivals around the world, winning awards and the hearts of its audiences. Metalhead will be released theatrically and on VOD in the US by Cinelicious Pics in early 2015. Raven Banner Entertainment will be releasing the film in Canada early next year.

They are in negotiations for more countries. In some countries, it already had a release like Germany, it's available there on DVD, BluRay. Don't know if it was released in Sweden though.

I tell you that don't have high expectations for it, specially when you're a big fan of Kubrick, however, it's not a bad movie at all but it's not great either, I love its music, it's awesome.

You would recommend it just for the music? You didn't like the story? I'm thinking the scenery is beautiful too. But I'll probably watch it now that it is available in Portugal.

Definitely I like the scenery so much, the main theme is also great, I like the story I mean, but I expected more in terms of conducting it, I'm totally satisfied by the movie.

it's funny to say that I always had a similar story in another context in my mind, but never wrote it down. shame.

Why do you mention Kubrick?
In any case: The main reason why I'm very interesting in this movie is mainly because most movies in this part of the north Europe (basically Scandinavia) have a very specific, bleak and artsy approach to these kind of themes. So I'm perfectly aware of the kind of movie I'm gonna watch.

Well, Kubrick is one of my absolute favorite directors of all time but I wouldn't think of him at all int his case. Completely different feelings, approach and style of directing. So it would be unfair to compare them. Personally, I LOVED the movie.

Highly recommended. I consider the metal part of the movie to be only an ingredient. The main theme is loss and how you cope with things. The way it's narrated, the way the acting is and the dialogue is really scandinavian in that sense. I dont want to sound like an elitist but sometimes it's necessary to watch quite a few of other movies from the north to appreciate the quiet and bleak perspective.

REALLY? Damn, in that case I just want to go on my way and maybe sound like a fanboy. I just loved your movie. I actualy just saw it yesterday at home. Got the DVD from a movie convention a couple of months ago. Hope to see more of your work in the future as I really enjoyed your style.

Awesome movie,not only because of music.Good story,acting,directing,imagery of Iceland,people,
how you cope with loss,loneliness....My favourite scene is when the main character plays Savatage's 'Strange Wings' above her brothers
grave.
