Aw hell, I thought that was an album title or something... now I feel awful.

Hope they pull through and continue to support good music.

Maybe they could come to Southern Ontario. Our venues are empty.

From Doom: "As a band & as individuals we are deeply shocked, saddened & distressed at the news that some of our fans lost their lives or were seriously injured due to the events that took place outside the venue in Santiago. This tragedy happened without our knowledge & was completely out of our control.

The first we heard of this incident was when we were told to leave the stage after a few songs & taken back to our hotel. Only then did we receive trickles of information about the severity of this tragedy.

We are in South America on a promotional tour & our gigs are usually very lively but always have a friendly & a party atmosphere.

We had assurances that the promoter had in place sufficient security & safety measures. As this was our first time in Chile and we were unaware that such a thing could happen with such a devastating outcome.

We would like to pass on our deepest condolences to the families & friends of those who lost their lives or those who were seriously injured."

How could this happen? Sad ;/ Fans in South America are so passionate. Maybe the promoter took advantage of that. I don't know, someone was at fault letting all those people get in.

Unfortunately what the band posted is not accurate. A classmate of mine were at this gig and told me that:

1. There was no police nor ambulance near the venue when is mandatory for any kind of 'massive' event. The promoters of the event should have take care of this but they never did.

2. This was a punk gig and lots of kids went to the venue without a ticket, drunk, and they wanted to break in using something called 'avalanche' (you get it right?). We, the fans, are very passionate about the bands and going to the gigs, etc. but unfortunately the punk kids (not the older guys) really don't care about anything.

3. The 'security staff' threw water to the kids and then put electroshock on them (yes, this is true), and some of them were unconscious while others stamped them. Some of the dead kids died of a cardiac arrest actually.

4. The venue is downstairs (for a punk gig!) and the door is only big enough for two people. There was no way to get in or out of the venue at the moment the incidents happened.

This was a tragedy but I think the blame is on the punk kids thinking because is a punk event they can do whatever they want and getting in for free.

Knowing my people well enough as well as the other contacts I have over there I agree with you. This was a tragedy caused by the stupidity of some kids and also the incompetence of the venue. This is the kind of bullshit that scares bands away from South America. FFS, if I remember correctly there was almost a riot because of a Dark Funeral gig.

Actually there was a riot. Well, in Perú and Colombia if I remember, but not in Chile.
