Iron Maiden - Receive O2 Silver Clef Award

Iron Maiden are about to release a new album, a double album in fact called The Book Of Souls. Recently, the legendary heavy metal band has also been awarded the prestigious O2 Silver Clef by Nordoff Robbins in recognition of "outstanding contribution to UK music". Previous winners include The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Genesis and Queen. Last year's Silver Clef winner was Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin). Singer Bruce Dickinson, and guitarists Adrian Smith and Janick Gers were in attendance to collect the award.

In its 40 year history, the Awards have raised more than £8.5 million to fund Nordoff Robbins' ground-breaking work with music therapy.

Here is the intro video that was shown at the ceremony. Up the Irons!

It depresses me that kids these days (well, even when I was in high school in the late '90s) don't even recognize "Iron Maiden" as being a band's name. When Wicker Man came out on the radio, there were classmates going "hey, check out this new band, these guys are pretty neat" while I sat there with a dozen albums in my CD wallet.
