Cult Of Luna - To Play 'Somewhere Along The Highway' At Roadburn 2016

Cult Of Luna will be celebrating 10 years of one of their crowning jewels, 2006's classic Somewhere Along The Highway. And they will do that by performing the entire record at Roadburn 2016 in The Netherlands. The band performed at both the 2008 and 2013 editions of Roadburn and are among the most requested bands. Cult Of Luna will be playing the album in full at the 013 venue on Thursday, April 14th, 2016.

But Roadburn 2016 has confirmed many more bands for their 2016 bill. Their latest confirmations include Black Mountain, G.I.S.M., Repulsion, Blood Ceremony, Bang, Naðra, NYIÞ, Grafir, Misþyrming, Full Of Hell, The Body, John Haughm, Behold! The Monolith, Chrch, Tau Cross, Kontinuum, Kenn Nardi, With The Dead, Skepticism, Hexvessel, Klone, Nibiru and many more.

As always, Roadburn 2016 will see many unique performances taking place. Green Carnation will be performing Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness in its entirety; Lychgate will perform An Antidote For The Glass Pill in its entirety, featuring a live organist; Paradise Lost will perform Gothic in its entirety; and Misþyrming will play Algleymi on Thursday 14 April, Úlfsmessa on Friday 15 April - both at Het Patronaat, and Söngvar Elds Og Óreiðu at the 013 venue on Saturday 16 April at Roadburn Festival.

Strange choice. This is one of their weakest albums imo. Songs are too long and never go anywhere. Anyway, cool for all SATH-fans out there. I'd prefer almost any other CoL album in its entirety though.

This is the one I find fans tend to like the most. Personally I prefer Salvation over it, but it's still top-tier music.

I'm sure it works very well live, and would still go to see it if I could. It's just not one of their best albums imo, but I see now that most would disagree!

I think Salvation or Vertikal would have been better choices. Though Vertikal could be a bit boring since they played most of it live recently.

There are still great songs on SATH (Finland, ...Birds) but it drags a bit too much towards the end for me, which makes it hard to listen to it all in one sitting. But yeah, still top-quality, hard to compare a band like CoL to themselves.

Salvation would have worked just as well, perhaps more so because it was their breakthrough album (as far as I remember it). As great as Vertikal is I think it would be a bit too recent to play in this fashion. I don't think it's reached classic / legendary status.

You know they play it due to the anniversary, right?

Um, of course, that's obvious... *cough*

Fingers crossed for an Eternal Kingdom anniversary in a few years, then.

So, I don't understand why do you even complain... There is no other option.

I just hope they announce some more shows. Do a tour? Please? I'd love to see this live, probably my favourite CoL album and I think the show would be incredible

Roadburn 2016 is turning out to be the most beyond-my-wildest-dreams lineup/setlists in history!

Green Carnation, Lychgate, Paradise Lost, Neurosis and now Cult Of Luna all playing special sets - that represent almost everything I love most about metal in the past 10-20 years.

Which makes me hate more than ever that I live in fucking North America...

Funny how much fans' opinions differ on each album. I've always thought Eternal Kingdom is very underrated and overlooked, but truly exquisite, and Salvation on the other hand sounds overrated for being a bit monotonous. Somewhere Along The Highway seems to bring the most consensus though and rightfully so.

Nah man, Dim and Dark City, Dead Man are amongst their best songs! Seen DCDM twice live and was emphatic both times

Between this, the Green Carnation set and several other bands announced for Roadburn I am very tempted to go - just have to decide whether I'm willing to go to and camp at a festival in a foreign country by myself, as I'm pretty sure no-one else I know would be up for doing this

Actually, Somewhere Along the Highway is my favorite album of all time, by any band. ^^ I just love the build ups and the emotions.

Do it. When none of my friends ended up being able to join me to Brutal Assault I didn't hesitate for a second and just went ahead and bought my ticket. It ended up being one of the best weeks I've had in recent memory. Don't worry about being there alone, you are never alone at a festival like this. There are always plenty of people to meet

I would rate this my favourite CoL album, and the album that first got me to really appreciate the genre. I have my tickets booked for London night of the tour.
