Cradle Of Filth - To Enter The Studio

After releasing their latest album, Hammer Of The Witches, and revealing Dusk And Her Embrace - The Original Sin, Cradle Of Filth are already eyeing their next release. In fact, the plan is to release a new album next year in September. The group is off to Brno in the Czech Republic on Thursday for their week long writing session. So, you can expect new material from the band in the near future.

In other unrelated news, members of Cradle Of Filth, Huntress and Morbid Angel are to voice characters in upcoming animated movie Realm Of The Damned.

The story is set in a dystopian world overrun by vampires, in which the most evil vampire is to be resurrected. Cradle Of Filth's frontman Dani Filth will be voicing the character of Balaur - Vampire Lord Supreme. Huntress singer Jill Janus and former Morbid Angel vocalist David Vincent will also feature in the comic-inspired film.

Behemoth, Empire and Mayhem will also feature in the graphic novel edition of Realm Of The Damned, which will be launched on October 19th.

Coming from a COF fan. Their best material is way behind them. Hammer of The Witches was better than their 2012 release but it still lacks consistency

Always wanted to like these guys, but couldn't get into them... UNTIL they released Hammer of the Witches. Incredible album.

I feel as if COF is putting too much content in too short of a time. They're putting out 60+ minute albums every two years without hesitation in an age where your average band that size struggles to make 40 minute albums every three years. Normally I wouldn't complain, but it feels like if they could tone down the filler a little then they would have far better albums that don't make you bored 30 minutes in. Every album since the ridiculously long Damnation and a Day, except The Manticore and Other Horrors (which is 51 minutes long) is over an hour in length.

Although I enjoy their newer stuff, Midian will always be the best of their gothic years. Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder had some pretty good moments too, but as Opethian said, modern COF albums lack consistency. Occasionally it feels like the band has become a caricature of itself.

IMO Hammer of the Witches was a step in the right direction after bellow average, sterile duo of The Manticore and Other Horrors and Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa...but, as good as it is, HotW still lacked in some parts and it had some horrible 'electronic' bits that still annoy me a lot...Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder was also a great record, but in comparison to their golden age albums it was a tad too predictable...thankfully, they fixed that "predictability" with their latest album, which was wild and aggressive like their early works, but I think they should have put more Gothic/Vampyric touch into the mix...you know, those sudden stops when eerie keyboards and sound effects get to the front and slowly build up the atmosphere before another blast....

Meanwhile Devilment (Dani Filth's side project) is about to release their second album but it seems I am the only one who cares.
