Blackhearts - Black Metal Documentary

Now for something a bit different! Have you heard of Blackhearts? Well, this documentary by filmmakers Christian Falch and Fredrik Horn Akselsen follows three diehard black metal fans from Colombia, Iran and Greece as they risk their lives, get thrown in jail, and attempt to sell their souls to Satan, all for a chance to bring their bands to the frozen hell-like birthplace of black metal ? Norway. How far will people go to pursue a musical genre and lifestyle they love? You can watch the trailer below. There have already been screenings of the film in Norway, South Africa, Australia, Romania, United States, Portugal and Colombia.

Featuring live concert footage, the documentary includes extensive appearances by Vegar Larsen and Arnt Grønbech (both of Keep Of Kalessin), as well as cameos from Abbath and Darkthrone's Nocturno Culto.

Upcoming screening of the documentary:

  • Nordisk Panorama in Malmö, Sweden - Saturday, September 17, 23:00

Very arguable, as Venom did not really play black metal, but a rawer form of NWOBHM, bordering on thrash.

Aye. Venom coined it anyway and I suppose the Norwegians were all "We can use this term better"

Looks like a good watch though.

Coining the name is not akin to inventing the sound which defines this genre. Venom was heavier than most NWOBHM bands, but not as heavy as thrash bands for example. Much less real black metal bands. How this name became to define this genre was because of the influence this band left behind, pretty much giving a kick in the ass to extreme metal.
