Alissa White-Gluz - Signs Solo Deal With Napalm Records

Alissa White-Gluz is going solo! The Arch Enemy front woman created an entity dubbed simply Alissa and her brand new solo project has now been worldwide signed by Napalm Records. White-Gluz remains firmly installed in her role in Arch Enemy. Alissa is more of a musical collective, led by White-Gluz and featuring contributions from her wide network of talented friends. An album is already scheduled for 2017 and tour dates will follow around the album release as well.

Alissa White-Gluz on her signing with Napalm Records: "I'm excited to let everyone in on what I've been working on so far this year; along with the next Arch Enemy album I've been writing even more new music - this time in a bit of a different way. I am currently composing and building my first solo album for the project aptly and honestly entitled Alissa. Those who are familiar with my full catalogue of work so far know that I have a weird side that scares some people off and intrigues others; this album will see that side unleashed.

"I have a fondness for art history, philosophy and even physics and I like to incorporate my brainstorming sessions into my lyrics and melodies. I draw inspiration from paintings, poetry, personal experience, science, etc in three languages. I've always seen the process of creating music from a holistic approach; every aspect and every detail is intentional and purposeful.

"I'm so glad that Angela Gossow suggested this idea to me and I don't know how I never thought about doing this before, to be honest. Although it has been suggested to me frequently in the past, I didn't feel it was the right time until now. I have tons of ideas and strange projects in mind that don't necessarily fit into the world of Arch Enemy so doing a solo project gives me a very welcome creative outlet to unlock all of my lyrical and musical vaults with zero restriction or pressure to conform to any particular style. I also pay close attention to what my fans want - I haven't been ignoring the consistent requests for my clean singing voice. I have dabbled in guest appearances as a way to continue using my clean voice but it feels good to finally be writing clean vocals again. They may find a place in Arch Enemy's music like they did here and there on War Eternal but we don't see any reason to force it into a band that is already so melodic. Arch Enemy is my favourite band and I absolutely adore fronting it, performing and working with everyone involved, I simply want to create a sound that satisfies another side of me. With Angela managing Alissa and some current and past Arch Enemy members participating in the music, I have a lot of support from the AE camp.

"With this new project I can finally return the favour and thank many of the great artists and bands who have welcomed me into their music in the past. This album is shaping up to feature many guest musicians that I have had the pleasure of working with on their material, now welcomed into my world. I'm happy to have Napalm behind this album as well - I can see they are as passionate about music as I am and this new partnership will surely pave the way for some great material.
"

With creating Alissa, it is the perfect platform for presenting her clean singing voice more often as well as delivering other techniques we all have heard from other works with bands. While the project is taking shape, some of the confirmed guests so far include past and present members of Arch Enemy and Kamelot, as well as Doyle from Misfits.

In the first paragraph, I was super-duper-why-does-my-whole-body-tingle excited, and then I read that quote and yep, I'm irrationally excited for this! Hopefully the guest line-up doesn't disappoint *cough*ÄlvestamPlzThnx*cough*.

Signed to Napalm just months after her former band signed with them; such short-lived freedom for The Agonist
The shade of it all. Regardless, I won't be following her outputs.

I feel a Tarja/Nightwish thing going on.

Didn't read that all. It's suppose to be music that doesnt fit AE, plus she has AE members collaborating and was encouraged by Ms (or Mr ?) Gossow to do so.

Anyway, I doubt anything interesting will happen here, just like anything AE related. Looks like typical megalomaniac "it's my band with my name where other people play for me just to satisfy my ego" kind of thing.

Singer becomes bigger than band? Guest slots everywhere.Own projects. Jealousy can be destructive.

Could eventually happen. But I don't see Alissa quite there yet since AE established their mainstream popularity before she was recruted. I mean, she is not really representative of the band or anything in the way Tarja was for NW.

Very, very much the right move for her. Arch Enemy may be such a ridiculously bland band, but they seem fine with letting her keep putting more music on the side.

Alissa was by far the reason why The Agonist put out good albums, so if her songwriting skills can carry over to solo projects, this will be very good. I've written about how passionate she is about music, so she is definitely not going to half-ass this. She's probably already making serious cash from Arch Enemy, the only reason why she would want to do a solo project is because she really really wants to.

That picture is ridiculous though. Not even in a good way.

I am so stoked to see Alissa producing more music and I am super happy for her that she gets support for that project from her bandmates
I'm not one of those who miss her clean voice in Arch Enemy since it was her style of growling/shouting/screaming (or how ever you want to call it) that made Arch Enemy intriguing for me in the first place but I definitely love her clean voice also.
I can't wait to hear how this beast is going to sound and I am very much looking forward to the collaborations she is mentioning.
Very exciting

Agreed. Her screams are subpar and her cleans are even worse.

Anyway, her image, along with the rest of AE's, is so superficial at this point I've completely written off the band and anything to do with it. Plus her ego is disgusting, ever since she joined AE, it's like she's a character more than a person now. It's all costumes, hair dye, make-up and posed 'metal' stances.
