Myrkur - New Album Out In The Fall

Danish composer and multi-instrumentalist Myrkur entered the studio last month to record the follow up to her debut, M, released in 2015 on Relapse to critical acclaim. She's revealed Randall Dunn as the producer who is known for his work with Marissa Nadler, Earth, Sunn O))), Boris, Wolves In The Throne Room and more. They worked in Copenhagen's Black Tornado studio and also in Dunn's own Seattle studio. According to Myrkur's latest update, the mixing process had already started.

Myrkur discloses: "I have spent the last year writing songs for this record and choosing which ones should make it. It has been a very different approach as well as process, compared to my debut album. I am mixing Kulning into the melodies, an ancient Scandinavian herding call and the lyrics are in different languages. I am very happy to have Randall Dunn produce the album here in Copenhagen, even though he is American, he seems to have Nordic blood and music running in his veins. It's a very exciting juxtaposition for me."

The album will include special guests (to be announced shortly) and an array of special instruments including Nyckelharpa, violin, mandola, folk drums and Kulning as previously mentioned. The album is slated for release this fall on Relapse Records. Stay tuned for more details.

Does it matter if it's a black metal album?

If someone prefers Black Metal over "that church music", so yes.

Don't care what kind of music it is as long as it is interesting, which the last one was. And if I had a problem with gimicks I'd certainly never listen to a genre defined in part by corpsepaint and lo-fi production.

I'm fine with her doing her thing.

I hope it's more like her EP not that terribly boring debut album.

But if it was church music stuff then that's what it was. Why does it matter if it's black metal? Just dislike it and listen to black metal.

The first album was black metal and the following ep was church music. basically I was stating I want this to be like the debut and not like the ep...

I don't see why isn't relevant to say such expectations concerning bands which switch genres too much? Better start saying that speech on every single thread then.

I think it's perfectly normal to expect a band you like to keep playing the style that made you enjoy them in the first place. Or at least not to change to something you don't like.

Oh, this makes sense. Having no prior knowledge of their releases, I assumed you were talking solely about a single release. I didn't know the EP existed - I vaguely remember listening to the first album but I don't remember much at all.

Basically, I'm saying that I thought you were implying that you wanted it to be something none of their music ever was. My mistake.
