Nile - New Album Update

U.S. tech death metal masters Nile have been working on their new album and the plan is to release the follow-up to What Should Not Be Unearthed by the end of the year. After the departure of longtime member Dallas Toler-Wade, guitarist/vocalist Brian Kingsland joined. In a recent interview, mastermind Karl Sanders revealed that they are working with Erik Rutan for the upcoming Nile album and plan to bring back the triple vocal attack.

Karl Sanders stated: "I think this next record we're gonna be using Erik Rutan, so it'll be something new for us. I don't know exactly how that'll work out, but I think it's time for a change."

About the new band member: "Brian is a very talented vocalist. Right now, we have more of the triple vocal attack that had kind of fallen off in recent years. But now we're doing that, where all three of us are sharing. It's more equally balanced. I find it more interesting. I'm really happy about that too."

The full interview can be seen here.

Rapid Fire

Agree that they need a change, they gone stale years ago, an though they recent albums aren't bad they aren't something barely surprising either. Maybe fresh blood will help, and to move back into the roots and using Rutan sounds like a goog idea. We'll see when it finally comes, but for now I'm interested.

Nile have been stale bread since Annihilation of the Wicked. Everything sounds the same. Might not even be a bad idea to drop the whole Egypt theme and just deliver a straight death metal album for once.

Karl will never do that, Nile is all about Egypt and it always be

The Egypt theme is largely lyrcs-based and besides the random acoustic interlude or eastern sounding riff here and there... It's basically just tech death like any other. So a change of lyrical theme would do nothing.

So maybe they should focus a lot more on the Egyptian themes and use a lot more middle eastern instruments and scales? I think bringing more non-metal stuff into the tech-death could mix it up a little bit and make it sound fresh again. I know they did that a little before, but maybe if they incorporated it more strongly into the music, we might hear a sort of rebirth of Nile.
