My Dying Bride - Vocalist Dismisses Breakup Rumours

My Dying Bride's vocalist, Aaron Stainthorpe, has denied recent rumours that the band is breaking up, after they were forced to cancel upcoming live shows. He has issued a statement regarding this matter and a little update on the upcoming studio album on the group's Facebook official page, which you can read below.

Statement from Aaron Stainthorpe: "I would like to quash some recent rumours regarding the demise of My Dying Bride in the light of our previous statements. We most certainly are NOT splitting up and in fact are vigorously composing the next album right now. The reason we have had to cancel a run of shows is due to a severe and fearful illness that has struck a member of my immediate family for which I have now dedicated all my time until signs of improvement. The other five members of the band however are working hard to produce the next opus which will be our debut for new label partners Nuclear Blast and will be released in 2018. I will do my part when the time comes and I can assure fans that it is going to be suitably epic.

"Apologies to all who were looking forward to seeing us perform live but rest assured, we will be back! Cheers, Aaron Stainthorpe."

It's really weird getting an update notification for MDB and feeling completely apathetic even with the news of a new album.
Looking back, 10 years ago or so, they were one of those bands that I almost worshiped, they had a huge influence on my musical listening habits and really comprised most of the music that I listened to on daily basis.
And oh how they have fallen. They've become the epitome of mediocrity in the genre and lost any sort of edge that their music had.
Apologies for the rant.

They changed during the last 10 years, but don't forget you also changed in the last 10 years.

The last album was not bad but the albums that were released before that one were quite meh. The big problem is that new bands have appeared on the scene who play the same kind of music MDB does but only much better.

That is indeed a factor but I still deeply enjoy all of their albums up until and including A Line of Deathless Kings, and I still get emotional listening to those albums.
I think saying that their music has declined in quality is a low effort way of trying to describe my gripe with their newer stuff; what comes into mind though, is that the music seem to be lacking substance and emotional depth, everything sounds formulaic which actually tends to happen to bands as they age and stop trying to challenge themselves.
I will be going into the upcoming album with minimum expectations (while secretly hoping to be surprised).

Relieved to hear this. No one can do Doom like MDB and I loved their last 2 albums too, unlike many people.

A Line of Deathless Kings was for me where they lost their luster. It had one or two enjoyable tracks but I didn't like the album as a whole and haven't liked anything since.
