Amon Amarth - Launch Viking Mobile Game

Amon Amarth are dabbling into the video games world. The Swedes have launched a brand new game in the mobile app stores. The mobile video game features four worlds, four epic battles, 12 unique levels and 13 different Amon Amarth tracks. They have partnered with Swedish video game developer and publisher Ride & Crash Games AB.

If you think it's fun, grab it on App Store or Google Play! You are Thor and your mission is simple: cleanse Midgard from all of the vile creatures that are threatening the (*ahem*) peaceful Viking way of life.

There are three keys to ensure your success:
1. Your hammer, Mjölnir.
2. Your control of the freakin' thunder and lightning.
3. Your fighting spirit is always high thanks to Amon Amarth's epic music in retro style blasting from over the horizons and into your ears.
  • Four unique worlds.
  • Four unique boss battles.
  • 12 unique levels.
  • 13 different Amon Amarth tracks made with retro video game sounds.

The idea for the game was conceived in the fall of 2015 when Robert Chirico Willstedt, a video game producer in Stockholm and founder of Ride & Crash Games AB, met Amon Amarth. Robert and the band bonded over epic amounts of beer and a common love of video games, and they started discussing how cool it would be if they could create a video game for Amon Amarth. There and then, the idea was born of a retro style Viking platformer with Amon Amarth music in '80s sounding square wave format. Robert hand-picked a team of developers and designers to realize the game concept. The band met the development team continuously during the development process to ensure the end product would stay true to the initial vision of the game. This is an authentic Amon Amarth product.

The game is behind a 10? paywall after the first level. But I'm not gonna lie, I enjoyed that level quite a bit and might end up spending the 10 bucks. Game itself is fun, 8 bit versions of their songs are great... not sure why people have a problem with this. I for one have enough black shirts with silly ass viking imagery on them, so why not a video game?

This band has been on a down slope since their 2008 release. Amon Amarth turned into a huge snoozefest ....

There are a bunch of videos on youtube made by fans. For example:

tbh I liked Jomsviking... not as much as their other releases but imo Vengeance Is My Name is one of my new favorites by them

though In my opinion this whole thing seems overly commercial

Will listen to Jomsviking again some day but with this album my interest in AA has suddenly gone down... I even left in the middle of the last gig I attended :p

Damn, that much? Well to be fair I guess I have never seen them live so I have no idea what their stage presence is like, and I guess if you're not into their new music it can be kinda lame watching them play it instead of other more preferable stuff.

Don't get me wrong, they are very good on stage and their shows are always enriched with warriors fightings, flames and viking stuff of all sort, but even though I cannot say why I have suddenly grown tired of them, while Dark Tranquillity (it was on the same gig) always gives me the chills. I like AA but don't listen to them much more these days as Jomsviking was a real letdown for me (seem to remember I voted it as biggest letdown in last year's MS awards).
