Leviathan - Stream Demo Album 'The First Sublevel Of Suicide'

Leviathan recently announced the release of The First Sublevel Of Suicide which features five tracks straight from Wrest's hidden vaults. On December 1st, Ascension Monuments will unleash the previously unreleased, 40-minute demo recorded between 2002 and 2003 that would serve as the basis for the project's highly-influential debut studio album, The Tenth Sublevel Of Suicide. This is the first time the demo has been made available for public consumption and will be the first of several planned releases from Leviathan via Ascension Monuments Media. Listen to all of it below.

Leviathan mastermind Wrest said the following regarding the unearthed demo: "It is the chrysalis of the aural grotesque that tainted The Tenth Sublevel Of Suicide album. A collection of the snap shots of a life ever slowly falling to pieces."

The First Sublevel Of Suicide was recorded by multi-instrumentalist Jef "Wrest" Whitehead circa 2002/2003 via a four-track analog recorder and mastered in 2017 by Ken Sorceron. Worldwide pre-orders now available here.

Lurker of Chalice demos when?

Honestly I don't want LoC demos nor do I want another LoC album because it would make the 2005 masterpiece less special.

So... The 2001 and 2002 demos do not exist then?

Is it wrong to not be overly excited about this? I mean I love Leviathan but if these recordings precede the debut they're probably not that special, considering the trademark "Leviathan sound" didn't really begin to emerge and take solid form until Tentacles Of Whorror. The debut has always struck me as a good release but ultimately unimpressive compared to what came after

I've always felt that Scar Sighted was the spiritual successor to LoC. I like most of Leviathan's music, but I love Scar Sighted above all the others.

I think Wrest decides not to do a follow-up to Lurker of Chalice because he knows he won't be able to live up to the expectations.

If I recall, there are 4 other Lurker of Chalice albums. If I recall again, there are some mental/emotional issues tied to LoC and could explain why they will remain unreleased.

I fucking love Leviathan; Wrest is an infernal beast from some barren, desolate, proto-humanoid dwelling hellish landscape-who manages to scamper up out of the pit to record some shit on a four track by himself. I respect the shit out of this guy/creature(haha) and will be looking to purchase this newly mastered demo. I also agree with the fellow above about Scar Sighted. I thought that album was great and it came out at a time that I personally needed that kind of an album to be released. Also, I don't think LoC should ever be resurrected, let that shit die and feed off the beauty of how good the album was/is. Just listened to it the other day. Hail Leviathan.

Yeah his girlfriend who was his inspiration died so he said there's probably not going to be more LoC albums.
