Sepultura - Will Not Continue Using Name After Current Tour

In a brand new interview with the Brazilian newspaper O Estado de São Paulo, former Sepultura drummer Igor "Iggor" Cavalera is quoted as saying that he and the current Sepultura members have come to an agreement that the name "Sepultura" can only be used until the end of band's current "Dante XXI" touring cycle. However, in the same article, the group's bassist, Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr., denies that any such agreement was ever made.

Speaking to Blabbermouth.net back on June 13, 2006, Igor was asked if, in his opinion, Sepultura should go on without either of the Cavalera brothers in the lineup. "I don't have the right to say whether it should exist, or if it should go on, since I left the band," he said. "I think if it was like, if they threw me out of the band, or if it was like a fight, or if it was a different situation, I could have a different opinion, as far as continuing or not continuing. But as far as the way I see it [now], I think it's really up to them if they want to continue or if they wanna stop with Sepultura. Asked if he would try to stop the remaining Sepultura members if they tried to continue and record a new album under the Sepultura name with a different drummer, Igor said, "No, not at all."

Sepultura played their first official show in their home country with the group's new drummer, Jean Dolabella (ex-Udora), on August 5 at the Circo Voador in Rio de Janeiro.

Igor announced earlier in the year that he was taking a break from the group's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their new son (who was born in January). Filling in on drums during the band's European tour with In Flames was Roy Mayorga, who played with Igor's brother Max in Soulfly for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003.

Igor is the second Cavalera to leave Sepultura In 1996, Max Cavalera exited the group after the rest of the band fired Max's wife Gloria as Sepultura's manager.

It's a good thing, it gives them a fresh start. Dante XXI is still an amazing album, and a good way to lay Sepultura to rest.

Well, good morning! When Max left they should have chnaged their name.

Fuck ya they should of!!!!!!! But i am really hoping that the "new' members change the name cuz they aren't Sepultura anymore. it would be weird for them to put out another album with the name Sepultura and not have max or Igor in the band. it would really piss me off, and same with a lot of other people, if they don't change the name
R.I.P. Sepultura (years with Max) (thanks for fuckin kick ass metal)

Well, Sepultura haven't done anything worthwhile since Chaos A.D. (and even that wasn't exactly mind-boggling), so I think a name change is long overdue. At least this way, Sepultura will be remembered for what they were-damn good thrash, and not some half-assed -core group with 'tribal' influences (and don't get me wrong, I love the concept of tribal metal...but it didn't work).

And as for Max...
All together now:

Fuck 'em all! Sepultura only existed during the era of Morbid Visions up to Chaos A.D.! Who gives a shit anyway about the new stuff?! When Max and Igor reunites, if it would really happen, I suggest they just form a new band with a new name and play classic death thrash metal the way they did during the good old days of Sepultura..
