Symphony X - Guitarist Michael Romeo Releasing Solo Album

Guitarist Michael Romeo, of progressive metallers Symphony X, has been busy working on a solo album. War Of The Worlds / Pt. 1, as it is titled, is being dubbed as his first official solo album. If you are curious about the music, check out the first song taken from it, "Black," now available below.

According to the label, the wildly ambitious 10-song disc sees the founder, chief songwriter and prime mover of the progressive titans Symphony X furthering his reputation as one of the world's preeminent axe slingers and composers of adventurous, multi-faceted orchestral metal.

War Of The Worlds / Pt. 1 will be released worldwide on July 27th on Mascot Label Group and is available as CD, 2LP and two limited edition colored vinyls (Camo Green / Pearl White Marble).

When I saw Romeo in the title I thought he had died This is much better news

So this is why the riffs on Underworld were garbage. He kept them for his solo effort!

More tough guy metal

My thoughts exactly. And so many of these riffs sound EXACTLY like the riffs of the past two records...

I have a feeling this album will be a collection of songs that weren't good enough for the last three Symphony X albums.

I Would not say ruined because the singer is not so bad, but I agree with you for an Instrumental album...

I think this is actually the result of Russell Allen being involved in too many side projects and not having enough time for Symphony X.

Really? based solely off this song I think it would have been a lot less dynamic if the vocals weren't present. Plus these vocals are great as far as clean metal vocalists go. Don't see how metal fan could dislike it without being a fussy nitpicker.

The singer isn't bad, I agree, but that chorus is bad. The chorus alone makes me not want to listen to the song. How it's sung is so poppy to me and I simply don't like it. I like the rest of the song though.

I wouldn't be surprised if Russell is a little apprehensive about getting back into things since the accident. Going through something like that will fuck you up. I don't think he's really done anything since then, has he?

Hold the phone. I did a couple of minutes of Google'ing and came up with nothing. Allen was in an accident? Can you provide any details?

Huh? The news about the crash appeared here, on Blabbermouth and even on the website of the public French-speaking Belgian television, RTBF.
