Týr - Guitarist Terji Skibenæs Leaves The Band
In rather shocking news that came in from the Faroese Týr camp, it seems that the long-time guitarist Terji Skibenæs decided to leave the band to pursue other musical interests. According to a Facebook post by Terji, there was no drama between him and the remaining members of Týr and he explained the reason of his departure as not having fun playing this type of music anymore. Skibenæs' last concert with the band will be Sabaton Open Air Festival, to be held in Falun, Sweden. Attila Vörös from Hungary will be take Terji's place.
Here is Terij's full statement: "This is it. I am now officially leaving the band Týr after 17 years. After months of thinking this through carefully, I've finally come to the decision that it's time for me to quit. The reason is very simple: I have no desire whatsoever to play in Týr anymore. There's no drama or anything going on between me and the others. It's just me not having any joy to play the music in the style of Týr anymore.
"I want to thank Heri Joensen and Gunnar Thomsen for the all the time we had and I wish Týr all the best in the future, and thanks to all the fans for the support through the years. My last show with Týr will be at Sabaton Open Air in August. More news to follow soon about my future projects."
While not commenting publically on Terij's departure, vocalist and second guitarist Heri Joensen unveiled that Attila Vörös (ex-Leander Rising, Satyricon) will replace Skibenæs on the band's already-scheduled upcoming South American tour. It is yet unknown who will be Týr's second full time guitarist, if at all.
