Emperor - Confirm Exclusive Norwegian Show, 'As The Shadows Rise' Reissue
Norwegian black metal icons Emperor were confirmed for the Mystic Festival 2019 in Poland. More recently, they also announced that they will play in their home country, an exclusive Norwegian show at next year's Beyond The Gates festival in Bergen! The festival takes place on August 23rd-24th. Emperor are the headliner for their 2019 edition.
Their performance will mark 22 years since the revered band last played in Bergen. Symbolically enough during their Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk concert cycle, the album will be performed in its entirety during their Beyond the Gates appearance.
Emperor's connection to Bergen has deep roots as both the ground breaking In The Nightside Eclipse and the successor Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk was record in the legendary Grieghallen studios. Two albums that has meant more to the development of the black metal art-form than you could ever imagine. The show at Beyond the Gates will be one of a select few concerts the band has announced for next year and the only one in Norway.

Originally released by Nocturnal Arts Productions (the label of Emperor's guitarist Samoth) in 1994, As The Shadows Rise is the second Emperor E.P. and features material recorded back in December 1992, during the same sessions as the tracks that ended up on the legendary Emperor Mini-LP.

I have seen them play it live once before but wouldn't have minded another go, even if that meant traveling to Norway for it. Doesn't seem to be an option now

Written by Guest on 07.12.2018 at 15:21 Oh god no! Emperor only are as legendary as they are because they quit before sliding off into mediocrity. Not every band can be Enslaved. Plus, Ihsahn and Samoth have both gone completely separate ways musically in the last 15 years. Prometheus was already pretty much an early Ihsahn solo album. They are well off, leaving the Emperor brand with its legacy and - if anything - starting a new project under a new name. So many bands should have done that and Emperor are among the few who have. Just think of Immortal's All Shall Fall
