While not bad, this was far from impressive.

I reckon the album just got 10 minutes shed from the possibility of being a great comeback.

It's a typical 7/10 track, it's kinda good but also completely unmemorable to me. Usually I wouldn't be surprised by that, cause tool has a lot of those imo. But also this is the title track, and those have historically been really good or at least one of the best of their albums.

I've never been into teasers or trailers so I'll wait until the album is released before I listen, but I will say these guys really painted themselves into an uncomfortable corner with how long they take between releasing new content, their (up-until-recent) lack of willingness to upload previous content for streaming purposes, and letting the salivating fanboys hype up whatever you might have generating in the oven.

At this point, it's almost guaranteed they'll piss off more people than they'll please. And even if it's a strong album, anything short of perfect will be regarded as pure garbage.

Yep

Note to bands: never take too long to release your album

Eh, you people over / underestimate fans. If it sounds like Tool then the vast majority will love it. Even that boring song has like 95% like ratio.
