Onslaught - Working On Two Different Albums

Onslaught guitarist Nige Rockett and vocalist Dave Garnett were recently interviewed by Mark Kadzielawa of 69 Faces Of Rock, offering an update on the band's upcoming eighth studio album, which will be their second full-length record with the latter on vocals. Also in the works from Onslaught is a double album of re-recorded material with Garnett on vocals that will also include covers by bands that they were influenced by in their early days. That set is expected to be out later this year, in celebration of the band's 40th anniversary, while their upcoming record with all-new original material will likely be released in 2023.

When asked if Onslaught were working on the follow-up to 2020's Generation Antichrist, Rockett said: "I've got a lot of ideas here. No concrete songs put together as such because we're working on another project at the moment as this is our 40th anniversary. We're doing a special double album release later this year for that, which is going to be some re-recordings with Dave of old material back from the very beginning up until this spiritual sound. And we're going to be doing, I think around 12 or 13 cover versions of bands who majorly influenced us at the beginning of onslaught, you know the reasons why we want to form a band and the songs that we used to play [during] rehearsals, you know, just jamming around. So we're gonna record all those as well, and try to get some special guests...it's going to be quite interesting."

As for the direction of the new record, Nige elaborated: "I think we're gonna go, the next step from Generation Antichrist, as expected with no intention of releasing Generation Antichrist 2 that's for sure. I think we'll probably go a little more aggressive again maybe, with some even bigger knots to our roots, which we did on Generation Antichrist. But I think we're going to take that to the next level again, so maybe progression by regression. But yeah, we've got a direction that we're going to go and we're really discussing it the other day, the direction...[we're] still gonna have a punky feel to it in places, so it's gonna sound different for sure. [We'll] push it different as well...so yeah, it'll be another completely independent album. As I said, it won't be Generation Antichrist 2 or VI 2. It will be completely standalone on the same merits."
