Slayer - Win Another Grammy Award

  • Nothing Left - As I Lay Dying
Track from: An Ocean Between Us
    [Metal Blade Records]

  • Never Ending Hill - King Diamond

Slayer also won a Grammy last year for the song "Eyes Of The Insane". This year, Foo Fighters won best Hard Rock Performance for the song "The Pretender", beating out Ozzy Osbourne, Evanescence, Tool and Queens Of The Stone Age. Meanwhile Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) and Alison Krauss won Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals for the song "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)". Also Metallica were nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance with " The Ecstasy Of Gold", but lost to Bruce Springsteen's "Once Upon A Time In The West".

King Diamond? LOL. was final six even that good? i refused to recognize it as a legitimate Slayer recording because of its collaboration with marilyn manson.

and WWTTTFFF Metallica nominated for Ecstasy of Gold? WHAT? when was the last time they even played that song?

Of course they care, after all why shouldn't they? The Grammys are still considered to be the highest music honour, and not only for the commercial and mainstream bands...

Besides Tom Araya and his family were there and he personally received the Award. Afterwards he commented: "This is awesome, I guess we're part of the industry now, above ground. None of those tunnel diggings anymore. No, this is our second win actually. It's kind of exciting. We've been fortunate to have been around this long with no radio play. We've gotten support from satellite radio recently, MTV gave us minimal support, but it's all on word of mouth and people liking what we do and passing it on to their friends. We owe a lot of our success to our fans. The industry is great, but the fans are the ones that take the time to look you up to see what you're doing, wait for the record to come out and buy it so..."

Hmm. I remember the last grammy they won, they seemed pretty apathetic. I guess that after 2 grammy's they don't feel that they won just on luck. Hopefully this doesn't lead them to selling out, and I'd be very disapointed if they did, being since 2 other very popular thrash bands tried to become mainstream with variying success.

They just redid it last year for a tribute album to Enino Morricone. Now it is Metallica's instruements minus the symphony in the background. It's pretty good, repetitive, but thats only because the song is, blame Enino for that.

Whether we or Slayer itself like it or not, Slayer is totally mainstream.. And i don't see any problem with that, just because you're into metal doesn't mean you don't want to be appreciated by the market.. I think all bands pride is to have a song being appreciated by others.. Other bands should thank all the sellouts like Slayer, Dimmu Borgir, Metallica and other metal bands for standing up for their metal genres.. Hail Grammy for giving these kind of awards, it never is a shame to be recognized as a foundation to what you believe in...
