Dutch metallers The Gathering have issued the following update:

"Hi all!

Yes, finally we are back! Fresh new start, brand new homepage, new songs ("All You Are", "Treasure" and "The West Pole") on our revamped MySpace, and you can order great packages at our webshop right now!

But first of all I like to announce Silje Wergeland as our new vocalist! Silje has been the singer of the Norwegian band Octavia Sperati for 8 years including several other projects. She did a superb job, as you can hear on our MySpace and new Gathering album "The West Pole". More info about Silje soon. This album also includes two very talented guest singers: the Dutch Anne van den Hoogen and Mexican Marcela Bovio (from Stream Of Passion), and some other guest musicians.

What can we say about "The West Pole"? It's a very vital, atmospheric and extravert rock orientated album, with all the quality and power The Gathering is so famous for, also with many new elements. The sound is guitar driven, alive and urgent; a strong and beautifully coloured album with haunting female vocals. It's produced by guitar player René Rutten and mixed & mastered by Zlaya Hadzich (who also did the production of "Souvenirs'" and René.

I hope you enjoy listening our new songs and our new homepage and MySpace.

"The West Pole" [cover artwork] tracklisting:

01. When Trust Becomes Sound
02. Treasure
03. All You Are
04. You Promised Me A Symphony
05. The West Pole
06. Capital Of Nowhere
07. No Bird Call

Seems nice...although it will take time to get used to the new vocals....had they changed the vocal style more harshly (such as Nightwish...from operatic to rock-oriented) it'd been easier but Silje has a similar style to Anneke...similar, but there's something missing....Nevertheless, I'm sure she and the other singers will do a wonderful job (Lotta Höglin would've shone as the replacement for Anneke though.....)...I wish them lots of energy and fortune...
But the music is beautiful as always....I hope they will continue full throttle and make more wonderful music....
Altho I still miss Anneke.....

Girl. New girl.

Hmm, the bad thing is thak Anneke is my favorite female vocalist, so there is no one who could really replace her, but on the other side, the good thing is that this doesnt sound bad, nor the new vocal or music either, though this albm wont be my favorite, thats for sure. I dont like this 100% guitar orientated sound so much in the Gathering, I liked the "west pole" more than first 2 songs...

This is good news! I finally listened to the new myspace tracks and i really like them!

I was worried at first since Octavia Sperati is one of the lamest bands in metal.. but clearly that's not the vocalist's fault since she really sounds lovely here with The Gathering
Promonex - 12.03.2009 at 22:55
Meh, I had hoped Marcela would've ended up as their new vocalist

This probably won't be as good as I've been expecting but it's still somehow surprisingly good, if that makes any sense... it must be easier to judge after the full album gets released. At least I can say the cover artwork is their best one so far. I have always disliked their album covers.

I really don't know what to say about the new vocals though. It's been the main concern I've had with this and I know I'm not just speaking for myself. It's good enough but could be improved, something to hope it's going to grow on me later on. But like I already said, it must be easier to judge after the full album gets released, until then I think I should check on Octavia Sperati discography. I've only heard the name before.

Silje Wergeland seems like a nice replacement for Anneke, since she already has experience in professional music. I enjoy what I've heard by Octavia Sperati. And Marcela Bovio as guest vocals! That's awesome.

Also, the artwork is simple yet creative.
