Drummer Steve Flynn comments on the song: ""Sleeping Ground" is one of the most diverse and aggressive songs on "Engineering The Rule". It has elements from thrash to death to grind, with blast beats, fast double bass, melodic polyphonic guitar harmonies, bass and drum breakdowns, screaming vocals, Latin percussion and on and on. However, despite the furious sounding nature of the song, the arrangement is quite crisp and clean with repeated thematic elements woven into the fabric of the song - culminating with bookend opening and closing riffs. "Sleeping Ground" really does a great job of embodying all that is Gnostic in one song."
