Wacken Rocks - Festivals Postponed

After Wacken Rocks Brazil, the Brazilian spin-off of the famed Wacken Open Air in Germany had to be defered indefinitely, now also the two German spin-offs Wacken Rocks Seaside in Aurich, East Frisia and Wacken Rocks South in Rieden, Bavaria, which were supposed to take place in two weeks from now, had to be postponed to the end of August. According to the organizers this is due to the high ticket sales and the bureaucratic and infrastructural problems that go along with this. The entire statement reads as follows:

"Due to the strong demand for tickets, the local authorities of Aurich have changed the legal requirements on short notice. As a result, both the festival ground and the camping area cannot be used as planned. For the reorganisation that has now become necessary, additional areas are needed - but are not available, since they are in agricultural use during May.

For this reason, the organisers are forced to postpone the Wacken Rocks Seaside in Aurich from May 21st to 23rd to August 28th to 30th.

As a result, Wacken Rocks South in Kreuth/Rieden has also to be postponed to August 27th to 29th, since all artists were booked to appear at both events.

We kindly ask for your understanding and will make up for it by getting additional high class acts and surprises on the bill. For starters, Doro has confirmed her participation!

Of course, all tickets remain valid!"

Alternatively tickets can also be returned at the agencies where they have been purchased.

I was going to bitch about this, saying that those people had better see that the woa gets somewhere near what was promised instead of putting one new "wacken rocks someplace" into every city on this planet. But I don't even find words for that. Every week there's news about stuff regarding Wacken and I've become so lethargic about it, I wouldn't be able to cry if the festival itself got cancelled (except for all the people I can't meet then of course). Just Pleeeeease go back to what worked for almost 20 years now and don't ruin it by getting global. But hey, whatever...

I guess this sucks quite a lot for people who had actually planned to go to one of the two fests, haven taken some days off and have now been officially fucked by the organizers who, according to some people in the forum who know more than I do, have known about the necessity of a postponement for over two weeks. But fortunately there are some alternatives.

Said alternatives have lead people in the Wacken forum to some interesting speculations btw: not high ticket sales, but rather the opposite would be the reason for this being postponed. At the time of both festivals there's also the Legacy Fest in the north of Germany and the Summer Nights Festival at the German-Austrian border. Both offer a better lineup for less money and are rather close to both Wacken Rocks festivals. It could well be that the Wacken organizers have noticed that many potential customers decide against the Wacken Rocks festivals in favor of one of the other two and have therefore postponed their festivals. Whether this is true or not, I don't know and neither do I care, but it's nonetheless quite impudent to postpone the events on such short notice, even more so if you consider the organizer's reputation which people have laid their trust in.
