Nope, nothing to do with metal elitist (or maybe in a way it is) but i am using it to pis off the fanboys, because I find it totally hilarious to the point of even pathtic that someone would change their first name because it means Christian. And especially when a person such as Varg does it, since he is so full of shit it is unbelievable. IMO he is th the person within metal who is fullest of shit of them all, surpassing such idiots as Glenn Benton by miles.

Yeah, I got that. Still it's just as ridiculous to call him that, whether it's to piss of other people or to show off that you know a bit about him. Besides, when I look back at my own life, I've head some weird views about the world when I was younger and I was dead serious about them too. I can't really say if changing my name from a christian one to one that better reflects my origins would have been within scope but I am a bit proud of my parents for considering stuff like this when they named their children. And changing your name because you don't like the old one, which millions of other people have done too btw, is by far no match for branding a cross to your forehead.
From what I know, and I can only repeat that it's not much, Vikernes wanted his music to be without connection to his person. I think he felt it would loose it's power when connected to the teenager that he was, who produced it. That is actually why many musicians choose a synonym. And he changed his name when press interest in him grew and they started to refer to him by his real name. Again, no judgement here for changing the name, but I've always sympathized with his attitude towards his own music.

that is because varg vikernes played a major role in black metal fundation as it is today. and that is, he is in the scene for years, even in prison. his name is a standard for black metal music.

Other way around for me. All the shit about the Norwegian BM scene is a mess of bravado and speculation, whereas Burzum is a real gem. If Varg's going back to guitars and stuff as it seems like he is, this album will be fantastic.
