I would like to open a topic where I am able to thank Metalstorm for being so useful to improve my metal knowledge and culture. There are some bands whose existance I were either not aware of or which I had never listened, yet after reading some positive comments about them I was curious and discovered some really good bands that I'm still into (and, naturally, some bands that I did not like at all).

These great bands are Dream Theater and Dark Tranquillity for me. I saw a lot of Dream Theater fans here on Metalstorm who described them as "great professional instrumentalists" and "music for musicians". I'm a pianist and composer myself, as well as a Melodic Metal fan, so I bought "Metropolis Pt. II: Scenes From A Memory" and got the "Live at Budokan" DVD as a birthday present and - hell, these guys know what they are doing. I'm still addicted to Dream Theater (especially the following albums: "Images and Words", "Metropolis Pt II: Scenes From A Memory" and "Train of Thought") and I'm looking forward to watching them live.

About Dark Tranquillity, they are the last band that I've added to my favourites. Them and Opeth (all right, In Flames too, but I knew them way before I joined Metalstorm) were the ones that opened my mind to the beautiful Melodic Death Metal genre. My favourite album by them is "Damage Done", and my favourite song is "Monochromatic Stains".

So, share your positive experiences with us about discovering new bands on Metalstorm! (This is topic #1000 by the way )

Edit: Please explain your thoughts, don't just write a list. Nobody reads long lists.

I was browsing some members' lists "best of the 2000s" when I discovered this great doom band called Warning. I had never even heard of them. I was so impressed when I gave it a listen that I decided to register here.

This is my first post and I am glad to join such a big and diverse community of metalheads!

Now, that's what I call a good reason to register. Welcome

A couple of us staffers have Warning's Watching From A Distance in our top whatever of the 2000s, but I have at number 1 so I will take the credit of hauling you on board in this case

The best find for me was Gojira. Found them back when they released their from mars to sirius album. We used to have an MS compilation back then and heaviest matter was on it. I loved them on first listen and they are still one of my favourite bands. I guess MS did shape my tastes a bit along with last fm
A more recent find was Dukatalon, an awesome sludge band from Israel. Checked out Bittercold's review of their saved by fear album and I knew I had to check them out. Eibon was another band I decided to check out coz of Lucas' review.

I don't think any of these are featured bands on the site, but I got them from some of Marcel's posts:

Miasmal
Toxaemia
Stench Of Decay
Burial Invocation
Krypts
Undergang

EDIT: There are featured bands too...but these are the only ones I could remember at the moment.

I must echo the sentiments of those who mentioned Rebecca Black. Somebody posted her in teh funny stuff from the internet thread. Asshole.

I found out about Havok in the shoutbox, believe Cynic Metalhead shouted them. One of the best thrash resurgance bands, listen to them frequently.
