Iron Maiden - To Release New "Best Of" Compilation

As posted on the band's website, Iron Maiden will be releasing yet another "Best Of" CD:

"As you guys will have read from our press release, 'the best of' is to help introduce new friends into the world of Maiden. We are not trying to sell this to the legions of our well valued Maiden supporters who probably already have these 'tracks' (and no doubt the entire collection of albums!).

From the amount of tickets sold there are a lot of people coming to our shows this year who won't have seen us before, so this is intended for them as an introduction, similar to previous ones of this nature. As with 'Edward the Great' we will arrange for the front and back cd artwork to be available for you to print free nearer the release date so, if you want, you can have them for your collections."

New fans can download the entire album without charge from http://www.ironmaiden.com as a high-quality audio file (WMA) which is a typically powerful 320 kbps. Fans will then be able to listen to the entire album at their leisure three times before the download expires. The listener is then given a simple option to upgrade and purchase the album as a full traditional DRM-free download (so they can then copy or do as they like with the album)."

The compilation is entitled "Somewhere Back In Time" [cover] with the following tracklist:

01. Churchill Speech
02. Aces High
03. 2 Minutes To Midnight
04. The Trooper
05. Wasted Years
06. Children Of The Damned
07. The Number Of The Beast
08. Run To The Hills
09. Phantom Of The Opera [live]
10. The Evil That Men Do
11. Wrathchild [live]
12. Can I Play With Madness
13. Powerslave
14. Hallowed Be Thy Name
15. Iron Maiden [live]

Ew... I don't really like that art. But you can't really fuck them for the commercial stuff, they're publicly announcing free downloading. Good on them for that. Of course the WMA format won't allow them to be shared over WinMX, and probably other P2P progs...

Read closer, the download only works for three spins and then you'll have to pay after that.

It's pretty cool that they sort of encourage copying too.

I noticed you have quite a long Iron Maiden collection, what live album would you recommend? I only have the Rock In Rio DVD, thats the only live experience I have from them. I forgot The history of Iron Maiden part 1, that also has some performances but from the older days. I might get part 2 it has pretty good songs besides the usual hits.

Get the Live After Death 2-disc dvd which has just been released, (that iincludes History part 2) that is THE definitive Live Iron Maiden registration. It was filmed in 1984 so when they were on the Powerslae tour and features ALL their old classics. And the band is really in its prime then.

I have seen them last time around as well. But sorry to say back then they were MUCH MUCH better live plus they didn't play that many crappy songs.

Isn't this like... a tour when they will only play tracks from Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, 7th son and No prayer for the dying? Why couldn't they just make an album to promote the tour instead of featuring the most boring and watered song ever (Run to the hills)??

They said it would be a tour where they would only play tracks from Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, and 7Th Son so of albums 5, 6, 7
But I saw the setlist somewhere and they even included songs from Number Of The Beast and even played Fear Of The Dark aarrggghhh, so this shows that also Iron Maiden are a bunch of l***s ;-)

I just saw them LAST MONTH though. The setlist was very similar to LAD but the were much MUCH better than what I'd seen from the vdo/dvd. IF LAD represents how the band performing live then I can only say they've come a long way from then. You shouldn't even argue with me here since you haven't even seen this tour.

Just go and check some youtube vdos. Bruce's 2008 versions make Aces high from LAD sound like shit.
