I can't be alone on this one. You come home from a long day at work/school, to tired to stay up, but to awake to sleep, and not exactly in the mood or energy to read anything to complex or deep. So you pull out a copy of your Metal Magazine of choice, or perhaps when your on the bus, or have dead time to kill at work, who knows. For all you magazine readers out there, I want to know your choice of metal magazine to read. Possibly some recommendations.

Metal Hammer-My current choice. But unfortunately they have pretty bad reviews and there articles tend to focus on bands for issues and issues on end without changing. On the upside that magazine is responsible for helping me discover a few cool new bands in the "Incoming" and "Subterranean" sections. And I like the interviews and articles. And it always comes with a sampler CD.

Revolver-One I used to read a lot then it just went downhill to the point where its not even a metal magazine anymore, more on the same wavelength as AP (alternative press).

Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles
Kind of boring sometimes, a little more consistent then a lot of what Ive read, not bad at all.

*Note to mods: Im surprised there already isn't a discussion on this already, but I searched and I didn't see anything, will delete this topic if needed.

Well I read a monthly portuguese magazine, called LOUD!

Its quite expensive nowadays but I still read it, besides the usual information about concerts, it has reviews and interviews with the bands, and now they added a few new things. And it has a column for Fernando Ribeiro (Moonspell) every month and thats interesting to read. They have reports on the underground scenes. And we can win band's cds and tshirts. And its has concerts reviews as well, thats good too.

Its the only portuguese magazine I know, maybe there are others.

About the foreign magazines, sometimes I buy them when I can find them in stores but they are hard to find, at least in the places I know that sell magazines.

There was a subject on it in the old forum, I remember cause I started the topic :-)

Metal Hamster is IMO an atrocity (the English Metal Hamster that is, I don't know what the American is like though)

My favourite English language mags are:
Terrorizer
Metal Maniacs
BW & BK

Dutch language Mags:
Aardschok (even older than Kerrap)
Rock Tribune

German mags;
Rock Hard
Legacy

But the most interesting reads are usually the fanzines cause they feature unknown bands and don't have to rely on the more mainstreamish stuff to sell.

I've been a Terrorizer reader for a few years and I like the fact that they occaisionally feature other stuff as well as metal. Terrorizer used to be the place I got most of my metal information from for a while, since I got internet connection only about year ago. Their interviews can be boring but I like the reviews and the occsaional special features.

Plus, those are even more expensive than LOUD! And if I'm not mistaken, they manage to get to the shelves even later than LOUD!.

I used to read Metal Hammer and Riff when I was younger and when there were no national editions available. But nowadays I can get almost all the information I need from the Internet, so magazines have been gradually put aside.

yes, I was referring to Metal Hammer there, just as Kerrap (pronounce phonetically) is a reference to Kerrang. SOrry, if it went over head I thought it was quite obvious what I was referring to.

Yeah it actually was, but I didn't want to assume anything just in case it turned out to be some oddly named obscure magazine. Yeah the North American and UK Metal Hammer are pretty much the same. A lot of it does anger me, like how they were bashing My Chemical Romance, even though they had them on the cover of the magazine only a few months previous. There reviews are pretty atrocious and they focus on the same bands for months on end. Unfortunately its hard to find any other metal magazines where I live, the only other one Ive seen is BW & BK, and thats rare that I see that. I gotta admit I like some articles and interviews in MH, which is mostly what I buy it for.

Terrorizer is without a doubt the best metal magazine around, IMO.

I also used to write for another mag: Explicitly Intense. It was not a bad mag, but they tried to ripp me off so I quit.

Would Guitar World count as a metal magazine? They tend to have a lot of articles on metal musicians that also helps talk about the bands they were/are in.

Kerrang and Metal Hammer are a pisstake almost to the extent of the "metal" section in HMV.

Don't know if there's any other metal magazines that you can buy in supermarkets or the like over here in England, but I usually just stick to the internet.

Get Terrorizer, it is English soo should be readily available I should think (since it is easy to get hold of here in The Netherlands at quite a lot of news stands.)

Close-Up Magazine: This one is seriously great! The only one I read, it also covers Punk too. Cool articles and great reviews with a rating from 1-10. They never give 10:s, I've only seen them give away one when they review re-released classics and/or important releases. 9 is also very rare, mostly it's between 4-7. The next number, #100, will probably own with a list containing the 100 best albums from 1991-2008. 1991 is the year the magazine started.

I generally look to three - Terrorizer (my fave), Metal Maniacs, and decibel ( http://www.decibelmagazine.com/ - they pretty much put the entire thing online, which i think is cool. ). I sometimes check out Revolver, depending upon who is on the cover, etc.

Mostly Metal Hammer, but I that's probably only because they have a rather large focus on thrash metal at the time. I don't like all the emo crap in it though.

Here in Denmark we have a magazine called Metalized that I read from time to time, but they are quite hard to get a hold of.

Dont worry, they'll be bashing all the emo bands they support in a matter of a few months, take My Chemical Romance for example, they were once on the cover of the magazine, now I see a lot of the writers bashing them, so give it a few months and the likes of HIM and Bullet For My Valentine will be on the chopping block.

Ok, any reason I had for buying Metal Hammer just got flushed down the drain, I was just reading the March issue, on the readers poll they had Municipal Waste at the #4 spot for "Best New Band" even though they released there debut album about 5 years ago, and have released 2 more albums since. Then they called Eluveitie "Swedens answer to Korpiklaani"....Eluveitie are from Switzerland, do they even research anything before printing crap like that? Are their editors trying to get fired or something? My god....
