Yeah, great artist, I don't know many works of him, but the ones I know are aewsome, definetely one of the greatest fantasy artists ever!

Actually, the guy really got some skills. I was wondering if the genre of these pics are fantasy. Then i Thought: hell yeah, Beautiful girls with huge 20 kg heavy swords, lives only in our fantasy;D.
But seriously this is no criticism, but when I first look, at most of those pics, I don't feel that the technic they were created is tipical fantasy tech. Or perhaps I'm stupid for this, whatever. I like them anyway.

@mAD_lINe: (it took me 2 minutes to write your name ) I thought so too first I mean this guy goes a little bit to drawing nude girls(not that I mind that) but he seems to go out of the fantasy type.......into porn.........I dunno how to put it in words.......

Well, even though this sort of art is really not my bag, I can appreciate it. It has a lot of detail and is pretty technical stuff. Some of it is beautiful in a way that a girl can appreciate, but some of it...eh.

From what I've seen of his work, he's heavily influenced by the likes of Frazetta. I personally love Frazetta to death. He was not into the whole "fantasy porn" thing, but more into classical figures and design. He did covers for sci-fi and fantasy novels in the seventies and artwork for Edgar Rice Burroughs.

to give some information about royo, he was born in 1954, in spain.he started to drwa for little fanzins since 1978.in 1981-84,his comics were in "comics international" and "rambla" magazines.when his illustration was on the cover of the heavy metal magazine(november,2000) he was awarded with chelsey award,which is the biggest award of association of science fiction & fantasy artists (asfa).

he usually shows us the dangerous side of the woman but at the same time he emphasizes their femininism.

Royo is a crazy man! dont get me wrong, yes he is great and all that but seriously have you seen his works of a machine/human sex? all those crazy images of female bodies fusing with machine aliens? although this theme sounds crazy the quality of these images i guess suppose to mean romantic...i don't know

exactly! there was nothing really wrong with the image hehe... it is a photograph of a girl in the water and a drawing of the same girl next to it but with the wings and some weapon made by Royo... basicly he draws from the existing real images

I really enjoy Royo. I was going to ask if there were any other fans on here until I found this thread and that answered my question. He is definately my favorite fantasy artist.

It is cheese to the power of four. This is art fans of European Flower Power Metal would like it seems. I really don't understand people getting a hard on or becoming wet over his work.

it must be pretty hard to do stuff like that though.

Luis Royo is a great fantasy artist, his art has got a certain sensuality in it if you'd ask me.

Another great artist is in my opinion Victoria Francés. Her work is much darker than Royo's fantasy looking art.
As Francés' work is more gothic oriented.

I don't mind his stuff...but it just comes across as some bizarre soft core porn.

I don't know many fantasy artists but Royo it's just amazing.

I know i already posted here, but i changed my mind a bit, i think the fantasy themed ones are great eye-candy, but some of them are terribly terribly overdone. like this one, it's like halfway through painting it he got Luca Turilli over to his house and asked him

"hey man, i ran out of ideas with this painting, can you gimme some advice? what do you think is missing?"
and he replied "well, why don't you make the sword glow, put some treasure chests filled with gold here and there, an anchor there, a trident over there, make sure the sky is dark and stuff... OH YEAH and a dragon in the background!!!"

I have 3 of his pieces on my wall, another poster rolled up in a closet. i love fantasy style works with women depicted in attractive yet not pornographic poses. you can take anaked woman and make it porno, or make it art..their is a difference. one of my pieces is a fully naked woman with a thin piece of see through draping around her arms, someone asked me why i had porn on my wall once...sighs i tried explaining the difference in nude art versus pornography and her ony repyly was, but you can see her vagina hair? i think she was insecure honestly..it is a beautiful piece and if you focus on the small amoun tof pubic hair illustrated you are obviously not looking at the whole picture.

That is true. People tend to think EVEN AFTER THE DARK AGES, that nudity = porn = evil. Hey, you can make pornographic images even with clothes on or with clothes only, but you can't make art with just nude person. And Royo has done it, like many others, but I think he did it the best so far. I envy you that you've his works in physical format. Guess I'll have to keep trying find some for decent price.
