Napalm Death is an english death metal band formed by Nicholas Bullen and Miles Ratledge...they are generally acknowledged to have been the first band to invent the grindcore genre...fortunately, the band progressed from these beginnings after their first two albums and became a death metal band...Napalm Death was originally called Civil Defence and started in 1982...well, information about the background of the band during this period is very rare and scarce, since they did little recording...the history of the band is one of constant member rotation, and by the second side of their debut album Scum, they didnt count with any original members...and although no member of the original line-up is playing in the band these days, they haven't cut down on their ferocity...their ceaseless worldwide touring helped them gaining technical perfection and thus the ability to refine their sound...their songs continued to be inalterable monuments of fury...hmm...specially the latest releases...showing us their dedication to sheer brutality...well, in my opinion a strong line-up, and the knowledege that the right people are doing the right job assures us that as long as Napalm lives, extreme music is in good hands...so cheesy! I know...

You probably know better than me. I never got into their earlier releases and can't really analyze them as a result. I only know them from like...2001.

Scum is my favorite ND album, personally.

For some weird reason I enjoy Scum way more than From Enslavement To Obliteration and the sound isn't that different at all. I guess I should try to listen to FETO more... It has been a while.
Yeah.. Scum is a great album imo, definitely one of their finest. Instinct Of Survival is one of my absolute favorite ND songs.

After much psychoanalysis, I don't find that surprising.

Well, fuck. We're even.

On an ND note, for some reason I don't find FETO too satisfying either.

I know, right? I can't point out why I don't enjoy it as much as Scum even though there are some songs I enjoy from FETO. It seems like the first half of the album is stronger than the econd half... So I end up losing interest after a while.

I always thought it sounded a bit off compared to Scum (hell, I'd dare say thin).

Right now blasting Smear Campaign, despite a lot of negative-to-meh comments I've heard on the internet about the album, I enjoy it a lot. Barney's vocals are fucking awesome, quite brutal.

I've never really encountered any negative comments about that album. Probably my fave Napalm Death release.

You've never listened to it? It's pretty much the same as the previous and subsequent record if that helps.

Their discog is a blur to me. I don't remember any of their releases prior to 2001 and their contemporary works never dazzled me. I just remember I didn't dislike them.

The highest rating I'd probably dole out for any ND release is a 7.

Hmm even MA has good words about it... I wonder where I read those comments, maybe it's just my imagination and I confused albums.
But yeah, the album is quite awesome and I think the kind of clean/loud production works perfectly. I love how monstruous the vocals sound specially when they gos together with the high pitched screams.

The one you recommended to me of course-Enemy of the music business.

Ah... It is a great album, definitely one of ND's best.

About "Smear Campaign", it is a great album, although I think "Time Waits For No Slave" is slightly better...

Well... if you isolate the grindcore elements that are on the album, that is what most grindcore sounds like. And it is an awesome album, which shows just how great grind can sound when it's done well.
