Since I have seen atleast 4 members with a Whisky bottle as a user avatar I think its about time we need a official Whisky thread. Were we "old" cranky farts discuss the golden nectar named Whisky. As a note Bourbon drinkers can make their own thread.

If anyone wonders WHY it is in the art forum. Th making of whisky and enjoying it, is a art!

So what whisky do you prefer? What Glasses? Regions? Your thoughts about the latest Whisky you bought!

At the moment Im sitting here with a branded Glenmorangie Noosing glass and enjoying a Ardbeg 10 year old from the new batch.

Favorites so far, Ardbeg, Lagavulin (yes I am a sley enthusiast), Bowmore, Port Ellen, Glenmorangie for a smooth change, Highland Park and the list goes on!

Lets Discuss Whisky!

And Ice is the tool of the devil in a good whisky!

I blame the media (american movies with jack and coke). In other words they dont know better at the current time an dpoint in their life. But many as they get more experienced move on to the mighty power of the single malt.

I Never ewer put coce or ICE specely ICE to whisky, never ever, its biggest crime to drink what can be , damn how correct in english I shood ask in bar when I want whgisky whit no ice ? ''Whisky but pure whit no ice'' ?

"On the Rocks" is with nice. "Straight" is without.

and fwiw, some water in your whisky can be a good thing. a little water helps "unlock the secrets" of the whisky in question. that tidbit from no less a source than one of the Laphroaig staffers on the History Channel's Modern Marvels episode on distilleries/booze.

i prefer my scotch straight/neat with only the tiniest little splash of water.

Nope, cause the basic distilling process is still the same or else it wouldn't be whisky/whiskey

I'm now working on a bottle of Chivas Regal, 12 yr ol' blended, one of the better whiskys I've tasted. Still there's a whole bunch of even more goodie single malts out there. I'm going to check out the Glenlivet recommended earlier. One of my personal rules are "You cannot pay too much for a good whisky"

huh? not common outside Scotland? every bar i've been to as an adult as at least some Scotch, if the lesser brands i turn my nose up at... any good (non-dive) bar will have quality stuff.

any supermarket will carry bottles up to the $50 range. and any booze-oriented shop (bevmo, total wine, etc) will carry the quality stuff that costs upwards of that (which is where i primarily shop when it's whisky time).

i'd be surprised if the US were the only major importer of Scotch.

perhaps you meant to say it's only MADE in Scotland which is largely true... but it is available well outside the region.

What sort of blullshit is K7 spouting now that Sctoch is not popular outside of scotland? FFS it is huge in the US, like Craig said, also in The Netherlands, South East Asia, Japan, Hong Kong, Belgium, so many countries.
