I like Operation Mindcrime II. It's not great, but it's good (some songs are pretty bad though), so I expected something similar.

Anyway, I haven't heard any positive opinion about this song up to now... I wonder why the band think that it's good enough to be on an album.

The corollary to that is: Imagine how bad the rest of the album is, if this is the track they're punting!

It's not that I don't want to be happy, I'm just not sure I'd enjoy it.

Yeah but that could be the same as when metallica came out with the first track, the day that never comes, that was imo the weakest track on the new album...

It seems that Queensryche have become one of those bands that it's 'cool' to hang shit on whenever they do anything, objectivity goes out the window. The song is fine, it sounds to me like one of the best songs they've done in recent times (which I do realise isn't saying that much but there's hope at least!) and Geoff Tate's voice also sounds fine, apparently some people must have better ears than me to pick up any flaws, because I couldn't really detect any. People just have to come to terms with the fact that Operation: Mindcrime is a long way in the past now, and the band and their music have moved on, time for the fans to do that too.

Mmm i think it coulda been much, MUCH worse. i havent heard anything prior to this besides their old albums but i didnt think it was all that awful, considering they made "Silent Lucidity", which isnt necessarily a bad song per se, i just hate it.

Whether they're still a great band or if they've spent all their talent, one thing is for certain. They have been together for a long time, longer than many other bands have. I think that aspect of them is respectable.

I agree that was pretty damn weak...all the samples zapped the energy from the song too...weak musicianship...all hidden behind this grand concept they have going here...

People pick on Queensryche because they used to be one of the best bands of the 80's, continually releasing high standard albums that sounded different to anything else at that time. Geoff Tate's voice used to be outstanding, one of the best in metal. When I saw them live on the Promised Land tour he still had the power, now it is a pale imitation of what it was, VERY strained.

I don't believe that they have moved on, moved backwards maybe, in song writing and ambition to be different from the norm. Is that objective enough for you?

Fair enough, that's your opinion, i'm not gonna argue with you on that, especially on the 'best albums of the 80s' part...I haven't had the privilege of seeing Queensryche live yet, living in such an isolated part of the world, so can't really comment on that...but I still think Tate's voice sounds ok, not what I would personally call bad anyway...we'll have to wait and see about the entire album, in which respect I agree with Table ov Black; they have been together a hell of a long time, surely they have earned at least enough respect for us to hold out on our judgement until the whole album is released. I definitely understand people's skepticism, but I dunno, personally I always hold out at least some small hope that these old bands can reclaim a little of their former glory...call me nostalgic, I still like new stuff (Opeth, Mastodon etc), but I just think that if they can produce something like Mindcrime vol. 1 (one of my all time top albums) then they must have it in them to do something else of decent quality, if not the same impeccable standard. I dunno, wishful thinking maybe, maybe I'll just be disappointed, but I still hold that hope. I think that for this album at least, Tate and co. have had the most inspiration for an album that they would have had for a long time, so on that basis alone I'm looking forward to it...but that's just me, I can't necessarily change others' minds...I just hope the band can end their career on a somewhat dignified note, at a point of their own choosing (although playing at a casino isn't exactly ideal, lol). Anyway I think they still have at least 1 more quality album in them...time will tell I guess.

So what? In my opinion, this song isn't bad compared to Operation: Mindcrime, it's just plain bad.

Anyway, I hope that the rest of the album will be better.
