Everyone has their personal favorite acoustic songs that they enjoy listening to while taking a break from all the brutality and intensity our metal brains absorb everyday. Acoustic ballads can even inspire us musicians when we are drained of energy from playing all those physically and mentally demanding riffs, solos, SONGS ! So I'm asking you to post your favorite acoustic guitar songs right here without any restrictions as to what genre it falls into, as long as it's ... shit i don't know ... acoustic ! Patterns in the Ivy - Opeth (a good old minor key acoustic song accompanied with a great jazzy piano, doesn't last long but it truly has alot of feeling) Trains - Porcupine Tree (another great relaxing song to lay back and listen to, beware the banjo in this song motherfuckers) Ivich - Al Stewart (this one i've known through my dad who listens to this great guitarist quite often, this should send shivers down your spine, quite old material i think, 70's, 80's ?) Three Hours - Nick Drake (practically a 7 minute long acoustic song, very good, another very talented guitarist) [Untitled] - Pelican (well to bad this one doesn't have a name but a great one nonetheless, you all know Pelican for their very ambient and refreshing sound, so don't miss this one) Mine is the Grandeur - Dark Tranquillity (truthfully this is on a nylon string (classical) guitar but i won't restrain myself from putting it here, because it's a great uplifting classical/folk acoustic piece) Classical Gas - Mason Williams (i would hope that most of you know this one, what an inspirational piece of work it is, i like it better without the symphony) The Mirror - Spooky Tooth (this is an old one also, that i warm up to on the acoustic guitar quite often) These are all great songs to me and all of them should be taken into account. So there you have it, this should keep you busy as a listener or even as a guitarist, enjoy ! Throw me back some more acoustics and tell me what you think about these ones as well.

Buckethead - All In The Waiting From buckethead's acoustic album Electric Tears. This song is the opener, its soothing and enthralling. Easy to get lost in, I always feel relaxed and swept away listening to this song. Annihilator - Crystal Ann This track opens for the song Allison Hell, also its the first track off the 1989 thrashtastic album Alice In Hell. Its complicated and technical, and kind of eerie. In Flames - Acoustic Medley, Timeless, Everdying Outro Three songs. One off The Jester Race, and the other two off the Subterranean [EP]. There are 3 acoustic guitars in play in the latter two, all harmoniously collaborating to create a deep, dense, melodic masterpiece. I LOVE old In Flames. Rodrigo y Gabriela (Pretty much any song) If you don't know them, they are a duo from Mexico that left behind the Mexican Thrash scene to learn more music in Dublin, Ireland. Came back here to release their first album, an acoustic phenomenon. Rodrigo is the solo guitarist, and Gabriela is something entirely special, being the rhythm AND percussionist at once, by using a technique to slap her acoustic body between strumming. Check out their cover of Metallica's Orion or Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven.

I'm not really fond of acoustic versions of songs, because most of the times they lose all the energy that makes them great and so they turn out to be really boring. i guess the only song, or one of the few that i like in it's acoustic verison also is ETOS's The River Flows Frozen. i didn't like it the first time i heard for the reason i just said, but i started to like it as i listened to it more times

Are these so-called semi-acoustic songs out of the question? If not, I know two wonderful semi-acoustic compilation albums: Hindsight by Anathema and Sleepy Buildings by the Gathering. Sleepy Buildings is also a live album.

Lol you people are so predictable, all posting the acoustic songs of your favorite metal bands. I think you should try some folk, Anything by Natural Snow Buildings, Twinsistermoon or Spires Than in the Sunset Rise should be great. Also the album First Utterance by Comus is something you should try. Opeth got some lyrics from there (My Arms, Your Hearse are part from the lyrics of Drip Drip, a song of the album) and it's quite evil and badass, singing about rape. If you want REAL acoustic music, just stay away from most metal.
