There's a thread for Biker Gangs already, but what about your regular street gangs. Growing up in L.A. (San Gabriel Valley) and my brothers being Gangbangers I know a little about the life, of course unless you're in the gang you don't know everything, anyways I always hear people putting down, and negatively talking about gangs and Gang members, and never to their faces (pretty smart actually) without really knowing what they are talking about, so here's the thread to discuss and ask on the subject. Personally I never joined a gang (but always was asked) cause My older Brother never let me (who's in Prison) and If I ever did I'd join Mongols MC, seeing as how they've been recruiting from street gangs lately, but back to the topic I still keep up with whats going on in my Hood, but what about you guys, do you bang? family members? gangs in your area? got down? get down? get harassed by the cops? walked into the wrong side of town? let me know

I would say we have no real gangs in CZ...there are only "funny imitations" of Crips (blue) and Bloods (red) and they are pretending being big gangstas and fighting each other...but it is on level of child games...

possibly there are some mafia organizations (Ukrainian, Russian, Romanian, Albanian, Vietnamese) but nothing to be called "street gang"

And i wish cops would be less aggressive, since streets are no open range and roads are no racing circuits...there is too big hazard of "collateral damage" each time cops "strike hard against crime"...rather let fast driver go than kill 3 people while pursuing him even faster...the same with shooting in streets when trying to stop the suspect...of course there are situations, when there is need to respond, when criminal is shooting too, but i nowadays feel policemen often consider themselves to be armored cowboys using more force than needed...dunno what people in other countries are used to...

You don't understand, may be because you don't know what its like to get harassed by the Police, That's why gangs were first created in the first place, for protection against Bullies, in this case the LAPD. That's why my brothers joined theirs gangs because if you're not in a gang here the police comes, and pushes you around, and if you're in a gang you still get harassed, but you don't get beat up, and when you do go to Jail or Prison you know people inside, and then the cops become scared, cause you learn things too, its like a criminal university, and if you have a pretty high or hard sentence already whats to stop you from killing them now? I know you're a smart person, analyze this, based on what i told you, hows really creating the gang? who's the real Gang, the one who creates intimidation right? the one who abuses right? who's that in this case?

you know the more time a gang member spends in Prison, the more he learns and has more to use against cops. Cops know this thats why they don't do it, Gangs are controlled from prison anyways, so that's not the solution, when someone gets a hit or mark on his head it comes form the inside (prison), so thats not the answer either, the answer is stop police brutality, control poverty, and most of all comprehension.

It seems like you're the only here who really understands how to deal with the problem, and doesn't just criticize or penalize without a just cause

Street gangs kill...they broke out into the street in Toronto here a few years ago and opened fire and killed some people in the midst of a small gang war...

Nighthowls, perhaps gangs weren't created for the purpose of facilitating rape, theft and murder, but that's exactly the kind of stuff that goes on. Maybe a gang member can't make a hit on a rival without facing some sort of punishment from one of his higher ups, but he can kill his girlfriend and everyone will protect him from the police and cover it up. He can do whatever he wants to whomever he wants because he knows that nobody will say a word. These people claim to operate on a "code of honor", but they don't actually respect anyone who can't harm them physically. They claim to abhor child abuse and molestation, yet many of them abuse their children. Why? Because they don't believe very strongly about anything or feel for anyone. They're bred to be sociopaths from a very young age, and see the consequences of their bad behavior (jail, prison, death) as honorable.

Gangbangers

Why are they called gangbangers ?? I'm sure everyone searching the internet for gangs always finds youporn

Anyway, there are definitely quite a few gangs here. You always hear about people being hacked to death in the street. There are rarely any shootings, but most of the time it's people getting beaten to death or hacked to death.

Really doesn't affect me as long as they keep to themselves and don't create problems for people who aren't part of these gangs. The problem is that never happens. It's natural human behaviour, once someone has a taste of power, they like to misuse it. I've heard of people getting beat up coz they didn't respect a gang member or coz some dude spoke to his girl. Some of these dudes just like to throw the "you know who I am" thing around. Just a bunch of douchebags in my opinion. If you're actually doing something beneficial to society, I get it, but most of the time they aren't
