Tattoo The Mind 2 - Festival Cancelled

In reason of really poor tickets pre-sales (around 400 tickets had been sold instead of the 4,500 attendees needed in order for the festival to be "safe"), the Tattoo The Mind festival 2 is cancelled.

This is the message which was sent by the organizers to the band Shining (which also comment that the organization has always be honest and correct with them):

"As the organizer and producer of the TATTOO THE MIND Festival taking place the 10th & 11th of October in Metz (France), I make my own duty to give you some information about its progressing through this mail.
Only 13 days to the opening of the doors and the few pre-sales we have already scored until today for this event has been becoming very worrying.
We have sold 360 one-day tickets (for the 10th AND 11th of October altogether) + 210 two-day packages. Hence an average of less than 400 per day (or 800 for both days altogether) !!!
Yet, this festival reaches its economical balance with 4500 people coming and accumulated on both days (naturally, you have at your disposal the budget of the festival but also the current score of pre-sales).
The daily evolution of sales tends sadly to be rather unconvincing.
Therefore, we have thoughtfully and reasonably decided that cancelling the festival has become necessary. The amount of loss to come would make us unable to cope financially with our expenses and to be sure to pay every fee for instance.
I let you imagine the amount of our loss, if finally only 2000 people come these two days (hence a loss corresponding to 2500 paying tickets).
Of course, I can imagine your disappointment and even more, but be sure that this decision is not easy way to escape from our commitments. Regarding to the figures, it is obvious that the feasibility of this festival is called into question. That is why we rely on your comprehension (?)

We do regret the current progressing of the situation and offer our apologies for this annoyance.

Yours sincerely"

We sincerely regret that so few French metalheads chose to support this event and hope that the Tattoo The Mind team will find the force to come back soon with a new project. Metal Storm will be there again to support them as much as possible.

Sad sad news. Such a good line-up...
In another country I suppose it would have worked.

I doubt they would sell more than 2000 tickets beforehand work for that price with that line-up in The Netherlands. But then again loads of people might still show up at the door buying their ticket at the very last moment.

Dumb me... I see ONLY 400 tickets were sold up to now.

To go further where my previous post left off. I sincerely doubt they would draw the needed 4500 people here as well to break even.

The crowd drawers are the bands that tour here every single year and aren't really that big tbh.

Saxon can't even fill a 1500 seater here, and that also applies for all the other bands.

ALthough a line-up like this wouldn't work in The Netherlands either, it is still a big shame that the fest had to be cancelled.

Serious?

Those bands from that list that have toured Australia in the last couple of years have played to full houses! I would've thought such an old band as Saxon would bring a lot of fans. They were nearly a sell out I think in Melbourne.

But you can't compare the Australian situation to that here in Europe. We get those bands all the time every single year whereas you guys only get them very very raarely (due to the bands' travelling expenses)

Yeh, Saxon play live too much for the own good really. People have already seen them a million times and won't make the effort and pay to see them again.

They don't make it better by playing the same old songs every time too. That's one thing I really want to shake them up for. Their Wacken (2009) set was the best I have seen them and probably one of the most enjoyable sets I've ever seen actually.

Oh right, so people just don't bother seeing their favourite bands that often? You don't know how good you have it lol

Nope I don't bother seeing my favourite bands every single time they come by. I'd rather see bands I have never seen before.

for Raiden, i'll say you're talking about western/central Europe. except for a few bands(Paradise Lost, Shining, Marduk, Napalm and Vader), none of those ever toured Romania and i know it would have been a success if the fest took place here, Ensiferum and Saxon would have pulled at least 1000 alone, and then there's the black metal bands. i say they would have pulled some 5000 people given the diversity of the bands.

Fair enough if they come around pretty often I guess haha. I've only ever seen one big international band twice before and that was Kreator last week (also saw them in 2006). I could see Suffocation a second time when they come with Arch Enemy in November too.

Too bad for those who were actually going and also of course to the organizers too, it's always sad when event is cancelled but I agree with Marcel.. that line-up wouldn't pre-sell that much tickets here either, I don't think.

And again, as usual, that generalization about Europe does not apply to France (except maybe Paris), which makes festival cancellations here even sadder. Out of all the foreign bands on TTM's line up, the only ones that tour the rest of France extensively are Paradise Lost and Behemoth.

Also, you can understand now why many bands don't tour in France. It's because people don't easily move their asses out there.
