Helloween - Releasing 25th Anniversary Best Of Album, Cover Art Revealed

Original news posted on 24.10.2009

Helloween have issued the following update:

"We deeply apologize the weeks of silence - which were weeks of insecurity for us - about the bands European label situation and the release date of the long awaited Unarmed - Best-Of 25th Anniversary album.

Thus we are proud to finally announce that we have teamed up with Sony Music in coop. with SPV, to release our upcoming records. We also want to use this opportunity to welcome the highly motivated team of Sony Music in the world of Helloween and it´s fans!

Release dates of Unarmed - Best-Of 25th Anniversary:

December 16th, 2009 - Japan & Southeast Asia (JVC/Victor)
January 29th, 2010 - Europe (SONY/SPV)
The release dates for the American continent will be announced soon

Unarmed - Best-Of 25th Anniversary is a big 'thank-you' to all our fans, old and new all over the world! Instead of putting together a regular greatest hits compilation featuring our most successful tracks to celebrate this anniversary, we completely rearranged and rerecorded the greatest songs and melodies of our career.
Together with our tried and tested producer, Charlie Bauerfeind, we invited many great musicians to guest on this special record, with the doubtless highlight of having the 70-piece Prague Symphonic Orchestra performing "The Keeper´s Trilogy", a 17 minute medley consisting of the songs "Halloween", "Keeper of the Seven Keys" and "The King for A 1000 Years" - goose bumbs guaranteed!

Here´s a list of all songs we recorded:

Dr. Stein
Future World
If I Could Fly
Where The Rain Grows
The Keeper´s Trilogy
Eagle Fly Free
Perfect Gentleman
Forever & One
I Want Out
Falling To Pieces
A Tale That wasn't Right

We aren't one of those bands who like to celebrate themselves, we just want to say 'thank you' in our own special way to all of you who have followed us through the past 25 years - to us, this album stands for an official celebration. It was a big challenge & great experience and we had a lot of fun recording our most important tracks in an entirely new 'outfit' and with new arrangements - we hope you like them!"

UPDATE (thanks to Snbn)

German metallers Helloween have revealed the artwork for Unarmed - Best-Of 25th Anniversary, and have issued the following message: "The artwork for the forthcoming album was once more made by Martin Haeusler who was already in charge of The Legacy and the Gambling With The Devil artwork. The photo shooting took place at a salt-lake near Los Angeles and a detailed making-of story will be featured here soon.

Unarmed - Best-Of 25th Anniversary will also be released in a limited version with a very special digi-pack, incl. a 30 min. making-of DVD, containing interviews and studio footage... also available will be a double vinyl version!"

It's an okay songlist...But we'll see what whether this re-recording thing is to be an improvement or a failure.

Hmm...now that oughta be interesting...Especially the so-called Keeper's trilogy...I'd preferred if one or two of the tracks were different, but it would still be great to have a Deris-version of all these songs...Judging by the times I've seen them live, Deris is doing more than a decent job in singing Kiske's parts...

P.S. Now that I look at it, the tracklist sure is pretty short for a Best Of Anniversary album imo...

Nice idea., but they should have included more songs from different albums especially from Time Of The Oath! Kings Will Be Kings etc...

I agree also, but I think that they could have put a few more songs on the list.

Good songs, but too few od them. For a 25 years band, and a good one to ... no Mr.Torture, Why, In The Middle of a Heartbeat ... Hell, I think even Bells of the VII Hells could do ...

It might be because the Keeper's Trilogy is a 17 minutes medley But yeah they could easily have tossed in a few more songs

Indeed they could have. 11(+2) isn't much for this kind of a compilation. And I know I will hate that Trilogy song, because a) I dislike medleys, they take away the flow of the songs and b) I absolutely hate The King for A 1000 Years.

Hate it when bands do this. Yea those songs are great, no matter how they're "rearranged" it doesn't change the fact that I've heard them already. I'd rather have new material!!

I think this compilation is a good idea but there are a lot of good songs that are missing like Why, Power, Mr. Torture, Steel Tormentor, etc.
I know you can't put all the good songs in just one album but I think there's enough space for 2 more songs. A tracklist with 11 songs is too short for a 25th anniversary album.

This type of albums I might listen to just once, but after that, I always go back to the original albums, where you have all the songs.
But if it is a band that I don't care too much about but has a few good songs (i.e. Bon Jovi) then I like the compilations.

Sounds interesting - could be worth having listen when it comes out.

But I'm with the "re-arrangements can go either way" fraction. (But it will be probably at least decent.)

I don't like the artwork at all. It reminds me of Avantasia-The Scarecrow, which is a piece of garbage I utterly despise.

Anyway, my opinion on this kind of record is it can be interesting and fun to do for the band members, but it brings nothing interesting to the listener. In other terms, I find this kind of record useless, pointless from a musical point of view.
